On a lazy Sunday afternoon, my husband and I were relaxing at home when our stomachs started growling, so we headed out for an early dinner at our true go-to sundae-guk place. I love sundae-guk so much, seriously!!!

What Pyeongando Restaurant feels like on an early Sunday evening

Even though we came during early dinner hours, the inside of Pyeongando Restaurant Hwajeong Branch was almost fully packed with customers, which surprised me,,, The restaurant is spacious overall and kept clean, so it's a really pleasant place to eat.

Besides the signature sundae-guk set and the beef-bone tteok-mandu-guk set, this place has a huge range of tasty Korean dishes — bone haejang-guk, yukgaejang, seolleongtang, refreshing chogye-naengmyeon, gamjatang, and stir-fried sundae on a hot plate. There's also a self-bar off to the side where you can help yourself to whatever side dishes you need, and get this — it's set up so you can enjoy unlimited sundae! The staff are all so kind too, so every visit is a pleasant one haha. As someone everyone knows is a certified sundae lover, this made me so happy💙

The side dishes include the kkakdugi that's an absolute must with sundae-guk, plus geotjeori that's crisp and fresh like it was made that day — the kimchi alone raised my expectations!

The most popular signature menu at Pyeongando Restaurant Hwajeong Branch is, without a doubt, the Pyeongando sundae-guk set (sundae-guk + sundae + pyeonyuk)! We ordered two sets without hesitation, and to enjoy some weekend leisure, added a bottle of chilled makgeolli too.

The pyeonyuk had no gamey smell at all and was somehow so chewy yet light — I took a piece, added a little salted shrimp on top, and paired it with a sip of makgeolli, and it felt like a whole week's fatigue melted away ㅠㅠ It was clean enough that even someone sensitive to gamey smells could eat it without worry!

How were the sundae-guk broth and the meat inside?

Next came the main sundae-guk, served bubbling hot in a stone bowl! Even though it's part of the set, the portion is seriously massive,,, and they added a generous handful of chives while it was still boiling!

I stirred it with my spoon and the meat and sundae inside just kept coming, endlessly. Out of all the sundae-guk places I go to, this one wins first place for the sheer amount of ingredients!

The broth wasn't murky or greasy at all — deep, yet with a really clean, clear finish!

It was packed full of tender head meat and chewy sundae with zero gamey smell, so we never ran out of meat until the bowl was empty. If anything, we got way too full,,,

Mix in a little chili paste and perilla powder and take a sip of the broth, and the deep beef-bone flavor spreads through your mouth — it's light and clean without any grease, so you never get tired of it and keep eating haha. We mixed in a bowl of rice, topped it with crunchy geotjeori, and devoured it all!

Would I go back to this Hwajeong-dong sundae-guk restaurant?

Big chunks of meat with no gamey smell, clean broth, and a generous set composition — the three elements came together perfectly here haha.
