Goyang Japanese restaurant salmon bowls and grilled fish: Min Cook

In short

Min Cook Misoyaki is a Japanese restaurant near Hwajeong Station in Goyang, Gyeonggi. My sibling and I ordered the special sake-don, tonkatsu, and a whole grilled atka mackerel for a generous meal of salmon, crisp cutlet, and gently seasoned fish. Verdict: a satisfying choice when you want several Japanese dishes in one meal.

My sibling and I absolutely, absolutely love Japanese food, so when we heard there was a great spot near Hwajeong Station where you can enjoy both sake-don (salmon rice bowl) and Japanese-style grilled fish, we had to visit Min Cook Misoyaki (민쿡 미소야끼)!! From generous, fresh premium rice bowls and tonkatsu to all kinds of grilled fish, everything at Min Cook Misoyaki was so, so delicious~~

Ordering the special sake-don, tonkatsu, and atka mackerel

You order by QR code, and the menu is made up of rice bowls/tonkatsu and misoyaki (miso-grilled or salt-grilled fish)!! haha There are many rice bowls with salmon, flounder, tuna, and more, while the grilled-fish selection includes black cod, mackerel, salmon, atka mackerel, Spanish mackerel, and more, so you can choose to suit your taste~~ My sibling and I wanted to try lots of things too, so we ordered the special sake-don and tonkatsu, then added a whole atka mackerel because we wanted grilled fish as well~~

Special sake-don, tonkatsu, and atka mackerel order

They first brought us warm porridge and the salad included with the tonkatsu!! The salad dressing was tangy, fresh, and so tasty~~

Pre-meal porridge and tonkatsu salad

The porridge was soft and nicely savory—perfect for whetting the appetite before the meal~~

Special sake-don loaded with salmon

We ordered the special sake-don, and it came with a huge amount of salmon~~

Special sake-don generously topped with salmon

The thick salmon looked amazing—so fresh and glossy!! The salmon was fresh enough that I think anyone would enjoy it~ Since the slices were thick, you could really appreciate that soft salmon texture too~~ haha There were also plenty of vegetables to enjoy alongside it, including radish sprouts, ginger, and onion~~

The sauce drizzled over the sake-don rice was sweet and tasty too. Take a big spoonful of rice, add salmon, wasabi, radish sprouts, and ginger, and it is a heavenly bite! I love the combination of soft salmon and warm rice~ My sibling raved that the sake-don was absolutely, absolutely delicious~~ I have tried sake-don at lots of places because I love it, but this one truly gets my number-one spot!!

Tonkatsu served with fried shrimp

The tonkatsu set includes tonkatsu and fried shrimp, along with rice, soup, and salad!! It seemed like they use clean oil too~~ There was no oily smell at all!! haha

Tonkatsu and side dishes

This tonkatsu was the very definition of crisp outside, juicy inside~~!! The meat was thick, with no off smell whatsoever, and it was tender rather than tough, so delicious!! It was full of meat juices too~~~ The tonkatsu sauce was sweet and tangy, and so good!! haha

A moist, lightly seasoned whole atka mackerel

We wanted grilled fish too, so we added a whole atka mackerel as a single item!! It was an add-on dish, so the price was affordable, yet the portion was incredibly generous~

A whole atka mackerel ordered as an additional single dish

The atka mackerel flesh was so plump and thick, and best of all, it was not salty, so it was delicious! After the first bite, we were saying, “Wow! The grilled fish here is so good~” It was seriously, seriously delicious!! The atka mackerel was moist, tender, and good!! It is hard to make grilled fish at home, so I think I will be coming to Min Cook Misoyaki often for grilled fish from now on!! haha The sake-don, tonkatsu, and grilled fish—every dish at Min Cook Misoyaki was so, so delicious!!
