Jambon fromage sandwich and olive ciabatta at Goyang KINTEX bakery

I went out to Goyang this time and ended up stopping by Hyundai Department Store KINTEX. While browsing, I went down to the basement food hall and the smell of bread was so good I couldn't just walk past it haha. That's how I ended up at Boulangerie Tan, Hyundai Department Store KINTEX.

I've always liked bread, so I enjoy browsing bakeries, and this place had such a wide variety, all looking delicious, that just looking around was fun in itself. I kept seeing people picking out bread after bread to take home. I meant to just look and leave, but I ended up doing some serious bread shopping myself haha.

Where Boulangerie Tan KINTEX is and when it opens

The address of Boulangerie Tan, Hyundai Department Store KINTEX is basement 1st floor, Hyundai Department Store KINTEX, 817 Hosu-ro, Ilsanseo-gu, Goyang-si, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea. It's about 543m from Exit 2 of GTX-A KINTEX Station, so it's fairly easy to get to!

Since it's inside Hyundai Department Store, it's a good stop when you're shopping or have business around KINTEX. Hours are Mon–Thu 10:30–20:00 and Fri–Sun 10:30–20:30, so keep that in mind if you're planning a visit. Parking and takeout are both available, so it's convenient to use.

French AOP butter and same-day baking at Boulangerie Tan

Boulangerie Tan seems to use quality butter too. It said they use Lescure Charentes-Poitou AOP butter. I have a soft spot for the distinctive flavor of French butter, so this detail naturally caught my eye haha.

On one side there was also a gift box for 5 cornet pies. If you buy 5 cornet pies, they can be packaged nicely as a gift, which felt like a much nicer option than just handing over bread in a bag. Cornet pies especially have such a pretty shape that they'd make a great gift.

Boulangerie Tan also had notices posted about enjoying the bread at its best — recommending you eat it within 2 hours of purchase. It seems like they really value the taste and freshness of freshly made bread.

Their production principle was indeed listed as same-day made, same-day sold, same-day discarded. They said they use a self-cultivated natural sourdough starter (levain), organic wheat and French wheat, natural butter and dairy cream, so it felt like a place that pays close attention to ingredients and freshness even for a single loaf of bread.

The four breads picked from the display case

Browsing the bread display, there were more varieties than I expected, so I spent a long time trying to decide where to start haha. From salt bread to ciabatta to sandwiches, so many delicious-looking breads were laid out that I wanted to try one of everything 😂

In the end, I went with my favorites — salt bread, ciabatta, and the jambon fromage sandwich.

What I bought this time: two gourmet butter salt breads at ₩3,200 each, one olive cheese ciabatta at ₩4,500, and one jambon fromage sandwich at ₩8,900 — four items in total.

Gourmet butter salt bread, 3,200 won

First up, the gourmet butter salt bread! I love salt bread so much that it's basically a default pick whenever I go to a bakery. This one was labeled gourmet butter salt bread, so I was curious and grabbed it right away. The outside was baked to a plain, savory finish, and the inside had a subtle, gentle butter flavor.

There was also that distinctive salty flavor of salt bread, so it wasn't bland even eaten plain. And best of all, the butter aroma wasn't overwhelming — it came through as a mild, nutty note, making it easy to eat without feeling heavy.

Olive cheese ciabatta, 4,500 won

Next, the olive cheese ciabatta at ₩4,500. I'm also a fan of ciabatta, so I couldn't pass this one up either. With olives mixed in, it had an overall plain, slightly salty flavor, and combined with the nutty richness of the cheese, the combination turned out better than I expected.

Jambon fromage sandwich, 8,900 won

And the one I was most looking forward to this time — the jambon fromage sandwich at ₩8,900! I was only planning to buy bread, but seeing the sandwich lineup, I couldn't just walk past it haha. A sandwich with jambon (ham) and cheese looked like a good, simple meal, so I picked one up.

The distinctive saltiness of the jambon combined with the nutty richness of the cheese for a plain but quietly filling bite. Since it's a sandwich with actual filling rather than just bread, it was pretty satisfying after just one. I especially like this kind of salty, plain combination over anything too sweet or heavily flavored, so I enjoyed it a lot haha.

Is Boulangerie Tan worth a stop after shopping or an exhibition at KINTEX?

This time I bought four items total at Boulangerie Tan, Hyundai Department Store KINTEX. From the gourmet butter salt bread to the olive cheese ciabatta to the jambon fromage sandwich, I mostly picked plain, meal-like options. There were so many varieties of bread that I'd like to try more of them on my next visit.

If you're looking for a quick bread option after shopping or catching an exhibition near KINTEX, it's worth checking out Boulangerie Tan in the basement food hall. For fellow bread lovers like me, it's hard to just buy one thing once you start browsing haha. I originally planned to buy just one simple item, but ended up walking out with both hands full 😂 Next time I'll have to pick a few more breads I haven't tried yet.
