I went to a handmade burger restaurant near Sageunjin Beach and Sunpo Beach in Gangneung.

I had to go to Sageunjin Beach anyway to get that tetrapod photo, so while I was there I figured I'd eat a handmade burger with the ocean in front of me on a nice day — it was so good.

Terrace seating and the free shrimp crackers at Burger Bar
The terrace seating at Burger Bar has lighting and parasols, giving it an overseas-resort kind of feel.

While I was ordering and looking around, I noticed free alsaeu chips (a shrimp-flavored cracker snack) set out on one side of the store for anyone to help themselves to. There's a sign asking you to only take as much as you'll eat. It was nice to snack on something crunchy while waiting for the burgers — perfect as a beer snack too.

Open-kitchen griddle: burgers cooked to order

Glancing toward the kitchen, I could see the beef patties, mushrooms, and onions being sautéed and grilled right on the griddle. Since it was cooked to order, the savory smell drifted all the way out to the terrace and got me even more excited.
How the lobster burger and Daegwallyeong songgo mushroom burger tasted
My lobster burger and Daegwallyeong songgo mushroom burger came out quickly.

I brought them out to the outdoor table to get ready to eat with the breeze on my face. With the ketchup, canned drinks, and the alsaeu chips I'd grabbed earlier all set up, it looked pretty impressive.
The lobster burger was visually overwhelming right off the bat. A lobster shell came placed right alongside the burger.

A sauce made from the lobster shell, served in the shell next to it, had a rich, deep flavor. It went really well drizzled over the burger.

A cute claw-shaped pick stuck in the burger was a nice touch too. One bite in, the plump lobster meat, soft patty, and sauce all came together well. The flavor was surprisingly deep.

Cutting the Daegwallyeong songgo mushroom burger in half showed just how packed it was inside.

The mushroom's distinct aroma spread strongly, and there were layers of thick meat patty, sautéed onion, and cheese stacked up.

The sauce was savory yet mild, so it went down moist rather than dry. Just looking at the cross-section, you could tell they didn't skimp on ingredients. Definitely a local Gangneung favorite for handmade burgers.
