Yangyang café for family electric boat rides: Cafe Dunchi

While taking a family trip to Yangyang with my child, I looked for a place where we could take a relaxed break. I visited Cafe Dunchi (카페 둔치), curious about its setting as a water café and the chance to enjoy the river breeze on a hot day.

Where is Cafe Dunchi, and is parking convenient?

Cafe Dunchi is on the Namdaecheon River at 295 Ilchul-ro in Yangyang-eup. When I arrived, the building housing both the watersports center and café immediately caught my eye.

The parking area was spacious, and I was able to park comfortably during my visit. The surrounding area was also well maintained.

There is no restroom inside the café, so you need to use the Namdaecheon Ecological Park restroom. It is useful to know this in advance when visiting with a child.

Namdaecheon Ecological Park was right next door. A short walk away, I could see the Songi Sculpture Park par-3 golf course and playground, and there were many families in the area. It was an environment where we could look around the park during our café break.

The original post listed the café hours as daily from 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM, with last orders at 8:30 PM. Boat hours were different, running from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM.

What are the seats like for relaxing by the Namdaecheon River?

The first floor of the building was for boat use, while the café was on the second floor.

As I went up the stairs, the Namdaecheon River scenery opened up beyond broad floor-to-ceiling windows.

The high ceiling gave the space an open feel. Sitting by the window, I could take in the Namdaecheon River at a glance and felt almost as though I were floating on it.

The interior had a comfortable atmosphere, decorated with wood-toned furniture and plants.

There was also a terrace, but I was satisfied just viewing the scenery from the cool interior. There were plenty of tables for four and group seating, so it looked suitable for families or larger groups.

What drinks and desserts are available, and how did they taste?

The menu was more varied than I expected.

Along with coffee, I could choose from ades, tea, and juice.

They also sold drinks made with house-made fruit syrups, and the menu said they used beans supplied by a Gangneung roastery. Cookies, yanggaeng (sweet bean jelly), and almond tuiles were available as desserts.

My family ordered an iced café latte and peach iced tea. The latte was clean and not too acidic, making it easy to drink. The peach iced tea was sweet and refreshing, well suited to the hot weather.

This was not a bakery café with a wide variety of breads. The simple dessert selection was enough to have with drinks, but I remember the space and scenery more than the food.

What are the electric boat prices and operating times?

The first-floor watersports center operated electric boats and hwangpo dotbae (traditional yellow-sailed boats).

At the time, a 30-minute electric boat ride cost ₩28,000 for four people and ₩35,000 for six people. The hwangpo dotbae had a 20-minute course, and my family chose the four-person electric boat.

We could bring drinks onto the boat, so we boarded with the drinks we had ordered at the café. Safety equipment and lap blankets were also provided.

What was the electric boat ride like with a child?

Following the instructions, we boarded the round four-person electric boat, set the 30-minute timer, and departed. It was not fast, so we could take a leisurely look around the river with my child.

We moved slowly along the Namdaecheon River in the river breeze. I enjoyed drinking cool beverages and talking as a family, and the experience of enjoying from the water the scenery I had seen from the café window stayed with me.

Rather than a highly active experience, it felt closer to a time for the family to sit together and look at the scenery. For my family, it was nice that we could combine a café break and a boat experience in one place.
