Sindorim bossam restaurant open at 11am: burner-warmed set, Sambaekga

In short

Sindorim Sambaekga is a jokbal and bossam Korean restaurant a 4-minute walk from Exit 1 of Sindorim Station in Guro, Seoul. Arriving at 11am with friends, the writer ordered the Sambaek bossam + makguksu set with the large bossam (steamed pork), which stayed hot on a tabletop burner and came with a sweet-tart makguksu and a fresh persimmon geotjeori (lightly pickled cabbage). By the time they left, every table at Sindorim Sambaekga was full — proof of how strong the lunch demand is here.

Meeting up with friends in Sindorim after a long while, we were looking for lunch and I was craving bossam (steamed pork), so we went into Sindorim Sambaekga (신도림삼백가), a jokbal-bossam restaurant that's a real Sindorim favorite. We ordered a set with both bossam and makguksu (buckwheat noodles) so we could have both, and had a really good lunch catching up with friends I hadn't seen in ages :)

Inside Sindorim Sambaekga: solo window seats and room-like corners

Sindorim Sambaekga has regular table seating along with window seats that are nice for solo dining, and toward the back there's a slightly separated, room-like seating area too. It seemed like it would work well as a Sindorim meetup spot with friends or a group dinner venue for a bigger table.

When we went in around 11am, before the lunch rush, it was quiet, but by the time we finished eating and left, the place was already full. It seems like a lot of people come here for Sindorim lunch.

Order placed — Sambaek bossam + makguksu set / bossam (large)

Basic side dishes served with the Sambaek bossam makguksu set
Seasoned bean sprouts, chives, dried radish, and geotjeori side dishes
Napa cabbage, lettuce, garlic wrap vegetables and three sauces

How was the large Sambaek bossam in the makguksu set?

The basic side dishes were seasoned bean sprouts, chives, dried radish strips, and geotjeori, plus wrap vegetables like napa cabbage, lettuce, and garlic. Three types of sauce were provided, so it was fun trying the bossam in different combinations.

Large Sambaek bossam served on a tabletop burner

Then the large bossam arrived right away. It came with a tabletop burner so it stayed warm the whole time we ate — bossam really does taste best warm :) It was great being able to eat it warm all the way to the end.

The bossam had no gamey smell at all, and the texture was tender and moist. The meat itself was good enough to eat plain, but paired with the geotjeori made with persimmon, the subtle sweetness and crunchy texture added a whole different flavor! It was also great wrapped in lettuce, perilla leaf, or napa cabbage — the meat was good enough that it worked no matter how you ate it :)

Sweet and tangy makguksu served with the set

The makguksu (cold buckwheat noodles) that came with the set

And then, while we were eating the bossam, the makguksu arrived!!! The sauce was sweet, tangy, and refreshing, and the noodles were chewy — perfect alongside the bossam. Eating a bite of bossam, then a bite of makguksu, cleaned the palate each time, so I kept reaching for more, and in the end we finished off both the bossam and the makguksu completely :)

Green grape candy given after the meal

Is Sindorim Sambaekga good for a group lunch or work dinner?

We finished off with a green grape candy each :) A satisfying lunch catching up with friends after a long while, with delicious bossam and makguksu and plenty of good conversation :)

Sindorim Sambaekga had a lot of people coming in for lunch, and in the evening you can enjoy drinks too, so it seems like a good spot to visit with friends for a Sindorim meetup or group dinner. On a day when you're craving jokbal or bossam in Sindorim, this jokbal-bossam favorite made for a great lunch with friends :)
