Adult comedy theater in Jongno: Nine Theater’s The Hot Edition

In short

Nine Theater is a small theater in Jongno, Seoul, where I watched the adults-only comedy play Suspicious PT Shop: The Hot Edition from B3 and B4 seats. The close view of the actors was enjoyable, but its sexually explicit jokes and visually bold scenes may feel uncomfortable for some viewers.

I was curious about a play that would be a little different from the romances and comedies I usually see, so I went to Hyehwa Station to watch one. I chose Nine Theater’s (나인 씨어터) “Suspicious PT Shop: The Hot Edition.” From the title, I expected a light gym comedy, but it turned out to be a more daring adult play than I had expected.

Where is Nine Theater?

The theater is at 30 Daehak-ro 8ga-gil, Jongno-gu, Seoul, South Korea. It is not far from Hyehwa Station, so it worked well to have a meal and stop by a café in Daehangno before the show.

Is there space to wait or take photos before the show?

Inside the theater, there were places to wait before the performance and spots where I could take photos.

I had previously come to this theater on a date to see “Suspicious Hair Salon.” In the performance I saw this time, the two male actors I had seen before were still there, while the female actors had changed.

There was a space decorated around the PT shop concept, which made it nice to wait while taking photos. Photography is not allowed once the performance begins, so it is better to take photos beforehand. There was also a place to have coffee or tea, and I appreciated the cold water after walking there on a hot day.

Is there a parking wait if you drive?

We parked at the nearby Korea National Open University parking lot and walked over. On the day we visited, the parking queue was long; even though we arrived at 3 PM, we could not enter until around 3:40 PM. If you are driving, it is worth considering the parking wait as well as the performance time.

How was the view from row B compared with row A?

Nine Theater was a small theater with the stage close to the audience. The cinema-style seats were comfortable, and I could clearly see the actors’ facial expressions and movements, which made it feel immediate.

Seat prices generally increased closer to the stage. We sat in B3 and B4 and were satisfied; personally, I preferred row B to the row C seats where I sat on my previous visit.

From row A, I saw audience members talking with the actors at points during the performance. It seemed like a good fit for people who enjoy that kind of interaction. Everyone could take part in the events regardless of seat, and more active participation brought more chances to receive different prizes.

What kind of play is Suspicious PT Shop?

The play turns various situations at a PT shop into adult comedy. Rather than a performance to follow closely and watch seriously, it felt more like something to watch casually while laughing.

The actors performed close by, and the scene changes kept coming, so I watched with focus. The roughly 80 minutes went by faster than I expected, and it was fun to take in both the acting and the audience’s reactions.

How explicit is it, and who is it good to see with?

By my standards, it was quite a bit more explicit than I expected. If you expect only a few adult jokes in the dialogue, you may be surprised.

There were not only sexual themes and expressions but also scenes that felt visually bold. Still, it was not embarrassing throughout; there was plenty of comedy mixed in, creating an atmosphere where everyone could laugh together.

I think it would be more enjoyable with people who are comfortable with one another, such as close friends or a long-term couple, rather than people meeting for the first time. It may feel burdensome for anyone who finds embarrassing scenes difficult to watch, and opinions will clearly vary depending on comfort with the level of explicitness. For me, as someone looking for an adult comedy different from familiar romances, it was an unusual viewing experience.
