Hongdae Korean restaurant for crispy kimchi pancake: Doonjeong

Today, I’m sharing my visit to Doonjeong Hongdae Direct Branch (도온정 홍대직영점), a Korean restaurant near Hongdae Entrance where you can enjoy a really neat, satisfying meal. It is a truly well-loved spot, recognized for its taste and quality with consecutive listings in the Blue Ribbon Survey in 2025 and 2026. From deep, rich soup dishes to carefully made menu items and a range of traditional Korean alcohols, it is a great place both for a meal and for drinks with food.

The Korean dishes we ordered

Spicy hanwoo gomtang, switched to meat only

This dish has a pleasantly spicy yet clean broth that is simply excellent. If you prefer lean meat to yang (beef tripe and offal), you can ask to change it to “meat only” when ordering. The bowl was absolutely packed with tender hanwoo beef, so every spoonful right to the end felt substantial. The savory meat broth was rich without being overwhelming, and it left me feeling wonderfully warmed and satisfied.

Hanwoo yukhoe bibimbap with warm gomtang broth

This bibimbap comes topped generously with fresh, bright-red hanwoo yukhoe (seasoned raw beef). Served in a tidy brass bowl, it made me feel like I was being treated to something special. The crisp, fresh vegetables and savory yukhoe come together beautifully, with a clean flavor and subtle nuttiness spreading through your mouth with every bite. A sip of the warm gomtang broth served alongside it gently rounds out the bibimbap’s flavors—such a perfect combination.

The meat kimchi pancake I strongly recommend

Today’s highlight—and the must-order, knockout dish—was the meat kimchi pancake. Its golden-brown, crisp appearance catches your eye right away. Despite being nice and thick, it nails that ideal crisp-outside, moist-inside texture. The spicy tang of well-fermented kimchi was soaked through with rich, savory meat flavor, and it was seriously delicious. It is great to nibble on between bites of your meal, and I think it would be perfect with makgeolli (Korean rice wine) or yakju (refined Korean rice wine), too.
