I visited Manmok, an eel rice bowl restaurant right next to Seonleung Station in Daechi-dong, Gangnam. From the atmosphere to every single menu item, everything felt upscale, so I'd recommend it for important occasions or meetings. Let me introduce it!

First off, Manmok is only 5 minutes from Seonleung Station, so access is really convenient. Parking is such a headache in Seoul, but here you can even park right in front of the store, which makes it easy to visit however you come.

Champagne for engagement gatherings, and corkage too

They're currently running an event where you get a free bottle of champagne for engagement/invitation gatherings, plus a birthday cake event, and a free draft beer per person for group visits. And on top of that, corkage is allowed, so this seems like a great spot for a satisfying get-together near Seonleung Station.

From outside you can see into the kitchen, where they were pre-grilling the eel like this. The eel looked thick and big — really appetizing.

Interior atmosphere and private seating

As soon as you step inside, the vibe feels really upscale. It's calm overall, so it seemed like a good spot for an important meeting with friends or colleagues — both the food and the mood were on point.

There are separated seats as well as group tables for several people, so it also felt fairly private while eating.

The menu — from half a serving to 1.5 servings

The menu is simply eel rice bowls. You can choose from half a serving up to 1.5 servings, and they have highballs too, which is nice. Right now draft beer and highballs are on discount, so they're really cheap!

They're also running a review event where the perks differ depending on how many reviews you've written. Write 3 reviews and you even get a free bottle of sake.

The whole-eel rice bowl table setting

I ordered two whole-eel rice bowls. It took about 10 to 15 minutes. Everything was laid out neatly on the table, looking great, and before eating, a staff member even explained the best way to enjoy it haha.

The basic setup comes with salad, ginger, steamed egg (gyeranjjim), and soup. Every single dish was neat and refined — so satisfying.

The steamed egg was really soft, like pudding, and the side dishes were all delicious too. Even before eating the eel, my eyes and mouth were already happy 😋

The golden-brown, well-grilled outside looked really tasty. And since it's a whole eel, it generously covers the rice on top.

No bones, so it's kid-friendly too

The eel itself has a slightly sweet barbecue sauce flavor, but it's not too heavily seasoned, so it's not overwhelming. There are no bones in the eel at all, so you don't have to worry about bringing kids along. The rice underneath is in just the right amount and lightly seasoned, so eating it together with just the eel was clean and savory.

If you feel like something's missing, it's tasty with a bit of wasabi on top, and there's sansho pepper on every table — sprinkling that on made it even deeper in flavor.

Matcha and black tea ice cream after the meal

They finish the meal like a course menu, serving dessert at the end — this cute ice cream, given per person. There were matcha and black tea flavors, and both had a chewy texture and rich flavor — delicious.

They pay close attention to every corner of the restaurant, even the restrooms, so I could end the meal feeling good all around. If you go in person, you'll understand why I recommend it for important occasions!

With such a nice atmosphere, it's great for all kinds of gatherings or date spots too. The eel itself was clean and unfussy, so overall it was really satisfying.
