Busan galbitang restaurant with kids for dinner, kid finished the

In short

Gang Galbitang Seomyeon is a galbitang (short rib soup) restaurant on Saessak-ro in Busanjin, Busan. Visiting for dinner with a kid, the writer ordered the basic galbitang with added Jeju jungmyeon noodles, and their picky kid — who won't eat tough meat — finished the whole bowl. The ribs are so tender the bone slides right out, and the chewy noodles keep the family coming back.

If you're searching for a lunch spot or a solo-dining spot in Seomyeon, Busan, you've come to the right post haha. Whenever I'm out and about in Seomyeon and mealtime hits, you know how it goes — fast food gets old, and sometimes you just want real food, something a kid will eat too. Now that fall is coming and there's a chill in the air, warm soup sounds good, right? This is my repeat-repeat-repeat neighborhood favorite, the place I go whenever I'm craving galbitang!

This is the exterior of Gang Galbitang Seomyeon. Head up a bit further from Yeonggwang Bookstore in Seomyeon and you'll find it. It's an easy walk from Seomyeon after eating. Busy at both lunch and dinner, with plenty of delivery and takeout too — this is a real galbitang favorite. There's often a wait during peak hours!

Solo bar seats and the menu lineup

Gang Galbitang has plenty of tables for 4 and 2, but here's why it's a great solo-dining spot in Seomyeon — there are lots of bar seats where you can sit alone. That's why so many people come here to eat without any hesitation. The menu is varied too. Beyond the basic galbitang, there's spicy galbitang, galbi noodles, galbi soup with rice, and aronsatae (beef shank) suyuk, so there's a wide range of options to suit your taste.

You order at the kiosk, and they also sell takeout and meal kits. Good to stock up at home~ I live close by so I usually get takeout. The portions are big enough to share a little at a time, and it makes a perfect stand-in for a meal's soup too. If you leave a photo review you get a hand cream — grab that! Useful gift as the dry season rolls in~

The galbitang came out quickly. Basic Gang Galbitang with added jungmyeon noodles. Looks delicious, right? haha

The basic side dishes are a dipping sauce for the meat, kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi), chosuk-jam (Chinese artichoke), doenjang (soybean paste), and garlic chili. The meat tastes even better dipped in the sauce haha. If you run out, you can refill from the self-serve bar.

When you order Gang Galbitang, you get about 3 big rib bones with generous chunks of meat attached! They're firm but simmered so long that the bones just slide right out. As soon as it arrives, I cut up the meat and slurp it all down — done!

The meat is really, really tender. It's so disappointing when you go out for galbitang and the ribs are tough and flavorless, right? Gang Galbitang has great broth and big, super tender ribs — that's why it's our repeat-repeat-repeat-repeat favorite galbitang spot.

Good to bring a kid? Finished the whole bowl

If you're looking for a spot in Seomyeon to take your kid to eat, I highly recommend Gang Galbitang. Galbitang is already a great dish to share with kids, but with noodles, glass noodles, meat, and broth all in one, there's nothing missing — it works even for picky eaters. We went with our kid and they slurped down a whole bowl, finished!! This is a kid who won't eat meat if it's tough, and yet at Gang Galbitang, not a single complaint haha. Proof right here. We visited for dinner, and there were a lot of families with kids around us~ Seems like lunch is more solo diners and dinner is more families. That just shows how foolproof the menu and the taste are.

What does the Jeju jungmyeon noodle taste like?

This was my first time adding jungmyeon noodles, and I thought — oh, so this is what it tastes like! The noodles are chewy and springy? Hard to describe, but you should definitely try adding it. Apparently it's the same noodle used in Jeju's gogi guksu (pork noodle soup). Makes sense — apparently they get it shipped straight from Jeju ^^ If you like gogi guksu, this is a must! Writing this is making me want it again haha. I should go back soon.
