If you're looking for a Hongdae sushi restaurant, I'd recommend Yu Iksang Sushi. I went here once before with my boyfriend and loved it, so we went back for another round. Bottom line first: the signature long-tail sushi was still genuinely long and delicious!

Yu Iksang Sushi is open Tuesday through Sunday, 11:00–21:00, with last order at 20:00. It's closed every Monday.

Where Yu Iksang Sushi is and what the room feels like

Among Hongdae sushi restaurants, Yu Iksang Sushi has a pretty cozy space!

There's a bar table inside and about two 4-person tables too! It's not a huge place — more the small-sushi-shop feel that's great for a quiet meal.

And looking at the wall, there were tons of what looked like letters..?! The moment I saw it I thought, ah, this place must have a lot of regulars.

What's on the menu at Yu Iksang Sushi in Hongdae

At this sushi restaurant near Hongik University Station, we ordered the Couple A Plus set! But besides the sets, there are also individual pieces and course menus, so you can pick to your taste.

Why the long-tail sushi is worth ordering

Usually even 'long' sushi ends up being pretty ordinary, right? But at Yu Iksang Sushi, the fish really is long enough to call it long-tail sushi! The salmon especially is seriously long. One bite and you taste way more fish than rice — personally I loved that!

They also top flounder fin with aged kimchi (mugeunji), and that combo is delicious too! The crunchy-chewy texture unique to flounder fin pairs so well with the tangy aged kimchi, haha.

Eating the Couple A Plus set, piece by piece

We had a reservation, and as soon as we sat down, the base set arrived.

They brought out lettuce salad, two fried shrimp, buckwheat soba, and doenjang soup right away.

They also give you a separate brush for applying soy sauce to the sushi, along with sides like ginger.

The basic raw fish sushi is made up of things like tuna, flounder, and salmon, and pieces like crab stick, shrimp, and steak sushi come sprinkled with a crunchy topping!

The torched sushi in particular pairs really well with the sauce and the crunch. The outside is savory and the crunchy topping on top is sweet and crisp — really tasty, haha.

And the raw fish sushi was definitely fresh — it just melted in my mouth!!

While we were eating, they suddenly brought out a complimentary eggplant sushi, which we enjoyed too, haha.

We also tried the steak sushi, and my friend said the steak sushi was delicious too, haha.

And finally — the long-tail sushi! Isn't it seriously long?? Popping it in one bite, my mouth filled up with fish, and that made me so happy!

We had rolled sushi too, and with such a variety of sushi types, trying everything made me appreciate the Couple A Plus set even more.

Is Yu Iksang Sushi worth a second visit?

As a Hongdae sushi restaurant, Yu Iksang Sushi is still great even on a second visit! The long-tail sushi especially is the signature point of Yu Iksang Sushi, so I hope you get to try it at least once, haha. If you're looking for a Hongdae sushi restaurant, I recommend Yu Iksang Sushi~!
