Whenever I need to pick a work dinner spot in Sangam, it's always a headache. A grilled meat place feels too predictable, but somewhere too formal feels like overkill. Then I heard about an eel restaurant near Digital Media City Station and decided to check it out. Ryeok Minmul Jangeogui Jeonmunjeom (력 민물장어구이전문점)! Bottom line up front: I was seriously blown away by the charcoal smokiness and the quality of the eel haha.
Where is Ryeok Minmul Jangeogui Jeonmunjeom, and do you need a reservation?
Ryeok Minmul Jangeogui Jeonmunjeom is a 2–3 minute walk from Exit 9 of Digital Media City Station. Being so close to the station is a big plus for heading home after dinner. If you're driving, there's a public parking lot nearby you can use.
And reservations are a must! While we were eating, I saw several walk-in customers turn away because the place was fully booked. Book ahead through Naver Reservation or by phone 👍
Inside Ryeok: seating for a group dinner

The interior of Ryeok Minmul Jangeogui Jeonmunjeom isn't huge — a pretty ordinary-sized restaurant — but every table has a proper grill and ventilation system, which made grilling comfortable. It's clean overall, and the walls are lined with framed autographs from celebrities who've visited. Seeing that kind of thing makes you trust the place a little more, haha.
On one side there's stained glass lighting and vase-like objects, giving it a cozier feel than a typical grill restaurant. Ordering is simple — just use the tablet at your table!

Menu and prices at Ryeok
The signature charcoal-grilled eel

At lunch, Ryeok Minmul Jangeogui Jeonmunjeom mainly serves eel rice bowls and set meals, while dinner is more grill-focused. Prices run a bit higher, so it's a good spot for a lunch or dinner work gathering.
Here's what we ordered :)
- Salt-grilled eel, 1 serving
- Tarae soy-sauce-grilled eel, 1 serving
Eating at Ryeok: what the meal was like
① Side dishes and the free fish spicy stew

After ordering, a wooden tray of neatly arranged side dishes comes out first. There's a solid lineup of Korean side dishes that pair well with eel, including seasoned king oyster mushrooms with wasabi and pickled ginger.
And when you order the grilled eel, a fish spicy stew (maeuntang) comes out in a stone pot — it's almost hard to believe this is a free side. The broth is spicy, rich, and packed with umami. The fish inside is substantial too, so you could finish a whole bowl of rice on this alone, haha.
② How the charcoal brazier is set up

This place really does use real charcoal. You can tell the moment it's brought to the table — the fire is genuinely alive.

It's a completely different experience from a gas or electric grill in terms of how the eel's surface cooks. You can taste the smoky char from the very first bite.
③ Salt-grilled eel (27,000 won)

Salt-grilled eel is the menu to try if you want to taste the eel's natural flavor. It's pre-grilled once in the kitchen, so all you need to do at the table is warm it up. This is genuinely so convenient. Usually at a grill restaurant you're busy managing the fire, but here it comes already cooked, so you just warm it slightly and eat right away.
The eel is so plump!

The thickness alone sets it apart — the outside is golden and crisp, while the inside stays thick and tender.

The salt-grilled version really lets the eel's natural savoriness shine through, making for a clean, satisfying bite.
④ Tarae soy-sauce-grilled eel (28,000 won)
The tarae soy-sauce-grilled eel uses traditional Japanese tarae soy sauce.

The sweet, savory sauce soaks into the eel, applied just right — not overdone. Dipping it once more into the special soy sauce takes it to a whole different level of flavor. Crispy, tender, and salty all at once — this is seriously rice-thief territory, haha. Personally, I reached for the soy-sauce version even more than the salt-grilled one.
⑤ Grilled sides: scallop, corn, pineapple, mushroom
Alongside the eel, you also get grilled sides like scallop, corn, pineapple, and mushroom.

The grilled pineapple in particular is a real treat. The tangy pineapple cuts right through the richness of the eel, and the combo genuinely works 👍 Oh, and there's eel soup too..!

The verdict in one line

Grilling eel yourself can be a hassle at a work dinner, but since Ryeok Minmul Jangeogui Jeonmunjeom serves it pre-grilled, we could eat comfortably while chatting. Above all, the charcoal smokiness and the plumpness of the eel were on point, and both the owner and staff were friendly the whole meal, which made it even better.
