If you're doing a bakery crawl in Mangwon-dong, I recommend Boulangerie Copain (블랑제리코팡)! This place genuinely has amazing baguettes — I tried a bunch of different kinds this time and now I get why the baguettes here are so famous.

The baguettes were insane.......

Seems like they've been on a Korean TV show about master craftsmen too — makes sense, the baguette is... on another level. Of course it is.

What bread Boulangerie Copain stocks, and which items get sliced
When you walk into Boulangerie Copain, you can neatly load up a tray with bread, and the items eligible for cutting service are labeled!

There were lots of different croissants too, and I heard the basil crunch is good, but I skipped it this time. I saw the basil crunch and chestnut bread mentioned a lot in Naver reviews.

They also sell sandwiches like these. Since they're made with baguette bread, they've probably got to be good. Next time I'm buying one of these and heading straight to Mangwon Hangang Park.

There's also a decent dessert menu, and the chocolate banana pudding looked really tempting.

With this much bread in hand, off to Mangwon Hangang Park.
Why the fig cream cheese baguette is Boulangerie Copain's number one
First off, the thing I enjoyed most at Boulangerie Copain was the fig cream cheese baguette.

This was genuinely delicious. To start, the baguette itself was insane. The outside has that classic baguette texture, and the inside wasn't too dry — it was good enough that I felt I could eat just the bread on its own. But then you add cream cheese and figs on top, and game over. The cream cheese wasn't too heavy and also wasn't overly sweet, which hit exactly the right note.

The figs weren't the dried-out, shriveled kind either — they were put together well, and eating them with the cream cheese was so good. I already tend to like bread with figs in it, but this was genuinely delicious here. I'll definitely be buying the fig cream cheese baguette again!
Chocolate baguette: proof Boulangerie Copain is a baguette bakery
Then the chocolate baguette. Again, since the baguette itself is so good, this couldn't possibly be bad. It's sweet from the chocolate, but since the bread itself is delicious, the combination worked really well.
Eating the chocolate baguette, I realized again — Boulangerie Copain is genuinely great at baguettes specifically. If you love baguettes, you have to try this place. I usually go to a bakery, try a bunch of different things, and compare which one's the best — but here, the more I ate, the more I kept thinking, wow, they're really good at baguettes... Highly recommend the baguettes.
Is the Boulangerie Copain croissant worth it?

I also tried the croissant, and it's a genuinely basic flavor, but delicious. You know it's the real deal when a plain croissant is better than one loaded with extra stuff. Crispy on the outside, soft and nutty on the inside — exactly what I think a basic croissant should taste like.
Not flashy, but pure fundamentals. I think a place that's good at the basic breads is a true bakery, and this place earns that.
Angbutter at Boulangerie Copain: better than expected
I also tried the angbutter (red bean and butter bread), and the red bean paste was surprisingly good. Angbutter can get tiresome fast if the red bean is too sweet, but since the bread itself is delicious here, the whole combination worked well overall.

It's a red bean + butter + baguette combo, and again, since the bread is good here, it's a win. Even the angbutter was delicious — not a single miss among everything I ate.
Salt bread worth stocking up on at Boulangerie Copain
The salt bread is about as basic as it gets, and it hit the spot exactly. Instead of tasting overloaded with extras, you could really taste the nutty, salty flavor of the salt bread itself. This kind of basic bread is actually the one you end up eating often — the kind you want to keep a few stocked at home. Good with coffee, good as a morning snack too (no photo of this one, sadly).
Boulangerie Copain for a Mangwon-dong bakery crawl
This time at Boulangerie Copain I tried the angbutter, fig cream cheese baguette, salt bread, chocolate baguette, and croissant — overall every single bread was delicious, and I especially loved the baguette lineup. And out of those, the fig cream cheese baguette was genuinely amazing.
The cream cheese was good, the figs were good, but most of all, the baguette itself being so good made everything better. Eating the chocolate baguette too, I just kept thinking — baguette really is... insanely good.......
If you're looking for a bakery-crawl spot in Mangwon-dong, this one deserves a spot on the list. Next time I go, I'm buying the fig cream cheese baguette again and stocking up on salt bread. And I want to try even more of the other baguette varieties!
If you're looking for a bakery with great baguettes in Mangwon-dong, I recommend Boulangerie Copain! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
