Mapo bar for chicken neck and yuringi: Kkoko Land

In short

Kkoko Land is a chicken bar in Mapo, Seoul, between Hongdae and Sangsu. I tried boneless fried chicken, crispy yuringi, and salt-grilled charcoal chicken neck, with outdoor-style seating and indoor tables behind it. Verdict: the charcoal aroma and yuringi were the standouts.

Kkoko Land, a chicken bar between Hongdae and Sangsu

When you look for a drink around Hongdae lately, there are those places that really catch your eye, right!!!? This time I went to Kkoko Land (꼬꼬랜드), a chicken bar that has been hot on social media and has that Hongdae outdoor-bar vibe! It is tucked into Seogyo-dong, a little way in from Hongdae’s main street, and it is in a handy spot for moving around after hanging out between Hongdae and Sangsu—great for meeting nearby for dinner or drinks.

Kkoko Land has been so hot on Instagram lately! I finally got to visit~~~ Rather than feeling like an ordinary chicken place, it has an atmosphere where you can have a drink and choose from several chicken dishes, so it was perfect for properly enjoying the outdoor-bar style that is so popular in Hongdae right now. Even on the day we visited, I could feel Hongdae’s lively energy, and it suited a casual beer with friends or a date really well💙

Outdoor atmosphere and indoor tables

I have been to so many Hongdae restaurants, but... this was honestly my first time at a place like this, and wow. Really, wow. The biggest wow factor was getting to enjoy the outdoor atmosphere! When the weather is nice, isn’t it best to have a cold beer outside instead of staying indoors all the time!!!? So if you are looking for a Hongdae outdoor bar, I think it would suit anyone who loves this kind of vibe. The inside also felt like a relaxed place to enjoy drinks and bar food amid Hongdae’s youthful, energetic atmosphere—somewhere better for casually visiting with friends than for anything overly formalෆ

Bar with outdoor and indoor tables

There were indoor tables at the back of the outdoor area, too. I do not think there is anyone who dislikes outdoor seating, but if there are no seats or you are cold (?) there is indoor seating, so that is nice!

The first thing I noticed when I walked in was the area where you could see chicken being grilled right in front of you. It was like an open kitchen, so it was fun to watch, and seeing the chicken turn golden over the charcoal made me even more excited for the charcoal-grilled chicken neck we had ordered~? Being able to see the cooking area was subtly charming, and it matched the lively feel of a Hongdae outdoor bar perfectly.

Three chicken dishes ordered by QR code

We ordered by QR code, and that day we tried a good variety of chicken dishes.

  • Boneless fried chicken
  • Crispy yuringi (fried chicken with tangy sweet sauce)
  • Salt-grilled charcoal chicken neck

And, so thoughtfully, they even prepared Orangina as a welcome drink! It was our first visit, and getting a welcome drink made us feel good from the start haha. They gave us small plates with sauce already in them, too.

The dish I was looking forward to most was the salt-grilled charcoal chicken neck! Since it is grilled over charcoal, I loved the gentle charcoal aroma, and I could really taste the chicken neck’s signature chewy texture..! We ordered it salted, so instead of a heavily seasoned flavor, we could enjoy the chicken itself and the charcoal aroma. Personally, having this kind of charcoal-grilled dish as beer food made everything feel much more varied? When you search for beer bars around Sangsu, there are lots of chicken and fried-food options, but Kkoko Land has charcoal chicken neck as well as fried chicken, making it fun to pick and choose haha

Crispy yuringi

Because we had a child with us, we asked for the spicy part separately! The crisp fried chicken with its tangy, sweet sauce really woke up the appetite! Honestly, I have only had yuringi maybe five times in my life..? This was really delicious.... I wanted everyone to order the yuringi and try it ㅜㅜ

Chicken is one of those things that is hard to go wrong with at a bar, right!!!? The boneless pieces were fried crisp, so they were easy to pick up one by one, and of course they went so well with cold beer haha. When you visit with several people, it can feel a little sad to order just one bar snack, but fried chicken is something everyone can eat comfortably, so I ordered it with confidence—and it passed~!

Chicken neck combination with extra tortillas

The chicken neck was so delicious wrapped in a tortilla that we added tortillas (₩2,000) and ate more lolololol

Choose from chicken neck to fried chicken

On a day with nice weather, it would be just right to enjoy the outdoor atmosphere with a cold beer and choose bar food from fried chicken to charcoal chicken neck. If, like me, you want a drink in Hongdae without anything too heavy but still want delicious bar food, or if you are looking for a Sangsu bar for beer, I think Kkoko Land would be worth stopping by.
