Mapo restaurant kaisendon lunch with mild mackerel: Makise Hapjeong
In short
Makise Hapjeong is a Japanese restaurant serving kaisendon in Mapo, Seoul, within walking distance of Hapjeong Station. We had the A Set for two, with two kaisendon bowls, cheese fries, and a canned drink, and even the mackerel and ankimo were delicious. Verdict: Makise Hapjeong is a satisfying, good-value lunch spot in Hapjeong.

I heard there was a great kaisendon (seafood rice bowl) spot in Hapjeong near Hongdae, so I went! I have no idea why I love kaisendon so much these days, haha. Let me share Makise Hapjeong, which felt like such good value!

What are the exterior and interior of Makise Hapjeong like?
Exterior

I expected the exterior to be bigger, but it was more compact than I thought~
Interior

Despite looking compact, the tables were laid out well inside, so there were more seats than I expected! There were so many figurines—I think the owner especially likes One Piece~!
A Set for two and à la carte menu
Menu

You can order set meals too, so we got the set for two~! A Set comes with two kaisendon bowls, two cheese fries, and one canned drink.

Besides the sets, you can also order à la carte! They have kaisendon, sakedon (salmon rice bowl), ebi sakedon (shrimp and salmon rice bowl), aburi sakedon (seared salmon rice bowl), and ebi katsudon (shrimp cutlet rice bowl)! There is also a sushi menu, including bong sushi~!

Makise Hapjeong gives you complimentary fried mozzarella cheese for writing a Naver receipt review, so I joined in too! Haha.
Basic sides and how to eat kaisendon
Basic setting

There were danmuji (pickled yellow radish), gungchae (pickled stem lettuce), and a mixed pickled-radish dish made with wood ear mushrooms (?)—the texture and flavor were both good!

There are also instructions on how to enjoy kaisendon, so it might be nice to follow them~
₩20,000 kaisendon sashimi and cheese fries
What we ordered

The kaisendon arrived! Isn't it amazing that this looks like this for ₩20,000?! Such incredible value 👍 It is a filling meal that feels completely worth it even at lunchtime! It came with soup and roasted seaweed too! They say it tastes even better wrapped in seaweed~

None of the sashimi had any fishiness at all! Everything was in such great condition! I was surprised that even the mackerel, which can be fishy, was not fishy 😲👏 And my beloved ankimo (monkfish liver) was included too, so I put it on seaweed and enjoyed it so much 🤤

These are the two pieces of cheese fries included in the set! The cheese pieces were big~! I loved how stretchy and crisp they were. Honey came with them too, and the combination was so good!

This is the fried mozzarella cheese I received for writing a Naver receipt review, haha. Eat it while it is warm~
Getting there from Hapjeong Station and parking
We cleared every last grain of rice~! There are so many kaisendon bowls in the ₩30,000 range these days, but Makise Hapjeong was a great Hapjeong kaisendon spot at an affordable price~ If you are craving Hongdae kaisendon, Hapjeong kaisendon, or Hapjeong bong sushi, I recommend Makise at Hapjeong Station! For kaisendon of this quality at this price, you need to run to Makise 🩷 I was so satisfied that I will go to Makise whenever I am in Hapjeong, haha.
