As the seasons changed, I went to Jangsuchon Pungcheon Eel (장수촌 풍천장어) near Balsan Station to recharge my body a bit. It's an eel direct-sales restaurant selling grade-1 pungcheon eel shipped straight from Gochang, so it was great in both taste and value — a very satisfying family dinner out!
The restaurant interior was really spacious and comfortable, perfect for family gatherings or company dinners, and the floor-to-ceiling windows were wide open, giving it an outdoor-dining vibe haha. Let me go through the location, parking, menu, and our grilled eel review in detail ❤️

1. Location and parking: a 2-minute walk from Balsan Station

Jangsuchon Pungcheon Eel Balsan branch sits in the restaurant alley near Balsan Station. Just a 2-minute walk from the station!! 🚶♂️ It's on the 2nd floor of the building, and it's a fairly large place with an eye-catching sign, so it's easy to spot at a glance haha.

If you're driving, there's a dedicated parking lot right in front of the restaurant. Parking matters a lot for group dinners or gatherings, so having their own lot is really convenient 👍
2. Inside Jangsuchon: open-air feel with the folding doors pushed back

The interior is really spacious and comfortable. Since grilled eel uses charcoal fire 🔥, places can get hot or smoky, but here it's so roomy that doesn't happen. The tables are spaced well apart, and the whole place is huge, which is great haha.
Each table is really big. When you pile on all the side dishes there's usually no room left and it gets chaotic, which is so annoying lol, but here it's roomy so it's great 👍👍😋 Really perfect for group gatherings or company dinners haha.

The folding-door windows are completely opened up as one whole panel haha. It's a totally open-air setup, so the sense of openness is great great. In this cool autumn weather, you absolutely have to go to a spot with outdoor-dining vibes!!! ❤️❤️ This place is basically outdoor seating haha.

We sat right here and enjoyed the cool breeze while eating haha. Seriously top-tier satisfaction!!!!!!!! 😆

At the entrance there's a tank with living, fresh(?) eels. Domestic grade-1 whole pungcheon eel shipped straight from Gochang!!! There are several kinds of eel, but I find freshwater eel the fattest and plumpest, so tastiest, ㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠ and among those, Gochang eel really is delicious haha (I'm a total eel lover, I even went to Gochang just to eat eel 😍). They say it's prepped and served the same day, which gives me real confidence in the taste haha.

They also sell eel extract. Drinking that would probably really restore your energy lol.

There's a smoking room inside too 🚬. Nice for smokers since you don't have to go in and out haha.

In the middle there's a self-serve bar where you can grab side dishes, vegetables, and utensils.
3. Menu and prices: 1kg of salted grilled eel for 59,000 won

As befits a domestic eel specialty restaurant, the main menu is as follows.
- ✔️ Grilled salted eel: ₩59,000 per 1kg
- ✔️ +₩30,000 per additional 500g
- ✔️ Beef short rib cut: ₩17,000 per 150g
- ✔️ Table charge: ₩3,000 per person
- ✔️ Various meal dishes too: jangchu-tang, cockle bibimbap, kimchi jjigae, perilla-seed dumpling soup
I really like that they have beef short rib on the menu for those who don't want just eel haha.

The weight on the menu is before prep — after removing the bones, head, guts, and blood from 1kg of eel, they say you get about 550–600g served.
What we ordered for two adults and a 4-year-old
- ✅ Grilled salted eel 1kg (₩59,000)
- ✅ Table charge (₩3,000 × 2)
- ✅ Makgeolli (₩4,000)
- ✅ Steamed rice (₩1,000)
We visited as 2 adults and a 4-year-old, so we ordered 1kg of eel haha. And since I was craving some cool makgeolli after a while, we ordered that too~~~~
4. The verdict: eel that arrives fully grilled at the table
The side dishes: ginger, the perfect partner for eel, along with fresh kimchi salad, salad, lotus root, and perilla leaf pickles.
They weren't part of the standard side dishes, but we grabbed lettuce and green onion kimchi from the self-serve bar haha, because I love wrapping food in lettuce!!
They also gave us each a serving of eel extract haha. Whoa, grilled eel plus eel extract too!!!! This is going to really restore my energy~~🤩
A staff member grilled the eel for us and brought it out. They set it over a low charcoal flame so it wouldn't get cold 🔥. Normally they grill the eel right at the table, but since it's still on the warmer side, they explained they grill it fully beforehand so guests don't have to suffer through the heat. Once it cools down, they'll bring back the tableside grilling service, they said.

Coming out this nicely grilled makes it so easy to eat 👏👍💗 When you go to places like this for a company dinner or group gathering, usually someone has to do all the grilling work, which is a bummer, but here they do it all for you, which is great haha.
Grilled eel, golden brown and cooked just right!!

Dipped it right into the raspberry salt, nom nom. Yeah, this is exactly the taste of freshwater eel~~~ Bouncy, chewy texture, and the more you chew the more savory and rich it gets 😆 Eel really is the best fish there is ㅠ_ㅠ No fishy taste at all, of course, and it's just the right amount of rich and clean!!

Tried it with the various side dishes too — with ginger strips on top dipped in teriyaki sauce, the fragrant sharpness of the ginger makes the eel taste even fresher haha. The green onion kimchi is sweet and tangy too, and it's a great palate reset if you're worried about getting tired of eating grilled eel!!

Cheers with a glass of makgeolli~~~~ So glad we ordered that!!!! ㅠㅠ It pairs so well with eel!! Raspberry wine would've been nice too, but makgeolli goes plenty well with it haha.
The eel must have been huge, because we even got two pieces of eel tail, so my husband and I split one each haha. Now let's eat this and get through the changing seasons healthy instead of feeling run-down!!!! 🩷🩷
Jangchu-tang soup, served free with the eel
Right when I was craving something spicy, jangchu-tang soup came out as a free service!!! 👏👏 Given the name jangchu-tang.... it's probably eel + chueo-tang (loach soup)???!

Looks like the loach and eel are ground up in it. No big chunks, just a thick fish-porridge-like broth~ With chives, napa cabbage, and chopped chili in it, so there's good texture to chew on too haha. No fishy taste at all, and it's nice and spicy 🌶️, so pouring it over rice would make a whole bowl disappear in no time. It was so good I almost ordered a second bowl of jangchu-tang...^^
Why Jangsuchon Pungcheon Eel suits a family dinner in Gangseo
What stood out about Jangsuchon Pungcheon Eel Balsan branch was the spacious, comfortable restaurant and the substantial, quality domestic pungcheon eel. Ventilation was good, so there was little of the smell burden that usually comes with grilled eel.
The value for the eel price is good too, so it looked like a solid choice for ordering generously with a group at a company dinner or gathering. Another plus is that they have a beef short rib option for anyone in your group who doesn't eat eel! If you're looking for a place near Balsan Station to recharge your body, I'd recommend giving Jangsuchon Pungcheon Eel a visit 💕
