Personally, I don't love overly loud or chaotic restaurants — this place felt good for a slower meal centered on buckwheat dishes.

Rather than just eating mak guksu on its own, ordering a side dish alongside it worked well too. The truffle potato pancake in particular is a standout on Hyeondae Memil's menu.

It's thinly julienned potato pancake with truffle aroma added, so it's noticeably different from a regular potato pancake. The crispy texture and the potato's savory flavor pair nicely, and it's a great combo when ordered alongside mak guksu.

There's also a warm option like the buckwheat warm sujebi, so ordering it alongside the cold mak guksu lets you enjoy the contrast in texture and temperature.

Mak guksu alone can feel a little lacking, but a full heavy meal can feel like too much on some days — this combination worked well.

There are disposable aprons on hand in one corner of the restaurant, and the restrooms are separated by gender, which was convenient. Near the exit there was also mouthwash and mints.

If two of you are visiting, ordering one mak guksu each and adding a potato pancake or sujebi to share seems like a good approach.
