Gyudon and cheese katsu for two at a Chuncheon tonkatsu spot
In short
Jeongseong Katsu Chuncheon Toegye Branch is a tonkatsu and Japanese rice bowl restaurant in Toegye-dong, Chuncheon. Two of us shared the cheese katsu set at 13,900 won, gyudon at 10,500 won and chicken karaage, 6 pieces, at 4,500 won, alternating between them so nothing felt too heavy and every plate was cleared. Ordering gyudon instead of a second tonkatsu was the right call at Jeongseong Katsu Chuncheon Toegye Branch.

Today I want to introduce a place in Toegye-dong where you can enjoy proper tonkatsu and Japanese rice bowls. It's Jeongseong Katsu Toegye Branch, a restaurant that serves up a table made with real care!
When two people go to a tonkatsu place and order two tonkatsu, don't you always end up a little sick of it by the end? We've all been there. This time I wanted to find a foolproof combo, so I ordered cheese katsu, gyudon (beef rice bowl), and karaage as a side to round it out. Here's my honest account of scraping the bowls clean with zero greasy fatigue!
Where is Jeongseong Katsu Chuncheon Toegye Branch, and what are the hours?
Jeongseong Katsu Chuncheon Toegye Branch is located at 10-8 Toegye-ro 93beon-gil, 1st floor, unit 101, Chuncheon, Gangwon. It's open weekdays 10:00-22:00 and weekends 09:00-21:00, with parking available in the alley in front of the restaurant. This is where I tasted the perfect balance of crispy savory cheese katsu and gyudon.
The storefront in Toegye-dong

The warm, tidy beige-toned awning and clean signage caught my eye right away.
Inside the restaurant: seating and tablet ordering

Walking through the door, the white and wood-toned interior felt really pleasant.

Every table has a tablet ordering system, so ordering was easy, and overall I got the sense the place was scrupulously clean — not a hint of oil smell anywhere.

This is what tonkatsu is supposed to taste like
Country-of-origin board
On one wall, the restaurant transparently displays the origins of key ingredients like loin, tenderloin, and rice, which made me feel even more at ease eating there!

There's also a generous receipt photo review event where you get a drink, fried shrimp, or cold soba — definitely worth joining if you visit.
What two people ordered: cheese katsu set, gyudon and karaage
At Jeongseong Katsu Chuncheon Toegye Branch we ordered the cheese katsu set for 13,900 won, gyudon for 10,500 won, and chicken karaage 6 pieces for 4,500 won — a combo swapping one tonkatsu out for a rice bowl instead.

- Chicken Karaage 6pc ₩4,500

You know a place that serves you roasted barley tea for free is always a good sign, right?
What comes with the 13,900 won cheese katsu set?
The cheese katsu set for 13,900 won arrives as a full tray. It's neatly plated with black rice, warm udon broth, cabbage salad, kimchi, pickles, wasabi and salt, and tonkatsu sauce.

The first thing that caught my eye was the color of the breading! You could tell right away they were using clean oil — it was golden brown and crisp. Inside the thin, tender domestic loin, mozzarella cheese is packed in without a single gap.
The moment you bite in, there's a crisp 'crack' followed by a waterfall of chewy, savory cheese.

It's delicious dipped generously in the tonkatsu sauce, and just as good with a touch of fresh wasabi and salt, which doubles down on the clean flavor so it never gets greasy. The cabbage salad was also really tasty...!
Why gyudon and karaage beat ordering two tonkatsu
The gyudon (₩10,500) at Jeongseong Katsu Chuncheon Toegye Branch was chosen instead of a second tonkatsu, and it was truly the best decision! It came beautifully topped with golden grilled beef short rib, a savory-sweet special sauce, a smoky poached egg, pickled ginger, and finely chopped chives.

Break the soft egg yolk, mix it into the meat and rice, and take a bite — your mouth fills with umami.

Backed by savory, smoky meat and rice, the fun of alternating bites of cheese katsu and gyudon was seriously satisfying.

An endless combo that never gets old — I stand by it!

The karaage we ordered as a side also had really clear, clean-colored breading. Underneath the thin, crisp skin, the chicken stayed moist and juicy, and a squeeze of lemon made it a great little side dish.
Who should eat at Jeongseong Katsu Chuncheon Toegye Branch
- Couples looking for a date spot: the clean, cozy interior and neatly plated individual trays make for a nice, tidy meal together.
- Chuncheon travelers and day-trippers: close to major spots like Namchuncheon Station and Gongjicheon Recreation Area, making it a hearty meal before or after sightseeing.
- Toegye-dong office workers and solo diners: the tablet ordering system and comfortable 2-4 person tables let you eat at your own pace without feeling self-conscious.
The combination of crispy cheese katsu fried in clean oil and the hearty, umami-packed gyudon made for a truly perfect meal. Fried food can usually get tiring by the end, but the menu balance here was so good that we finished down to the last grain of rice. If you're craving a proper katsu and Japanese rice bowl in Toegye-dong, definitely stop by!
