Jamsil date-night bar with draft beer and gopchang hot pot: Horanggul

In short

Horanggul Bangi Branch (호랑이굴 방이점) is a gopchang (beef tripe) hot pot bar just off the main Bangi-dong food alley in Songpa, Seoul. On a Jamsil date, the writer and her boyfriend ordered a medium-spice gopchang hot pot for two, draft beer, and rice, and loved the hot pot broth after staff timed it to a boil for exactly 9 minutes. There's dedicated parking right beside the restaurant, but if you're drinking, walking from Jamsil Station is the better call.

A few days ago I finally had a cozy date with my boyfriend in Jamsil, and we found a place we both loved! So today I'm introducing a great bar for a Jamsil date in the Bangi-dong food alley — "Horanggul Bangi Branch" (호랑이굴 방이점) :)

A location you can walk to from Jamsil Station

This Bangi-dong food alley bar sits a bit off to the side of the main street, but it's still close enough to Jamsil Station and Lotte World Mall to walk there without any trouble!

Hours and break time

  • Open - 11:30
  • Break Time - 15:00 ~ 17:00
  • Last Order - 14:30 / 23:00
  • Close - 24:00

This is a spot in the Bangi-dong food alley that can cover you from lunch all the way to late-night drinks. Just make sure to check the lunch last order time and the break time before you go :)

Where do you park?

There's a dedicated parking lot right to the right of the restaurant, so park there if you're driving :) But if you're planning to enjoy delicious gopchang hot pot with a drink, I'd recommend public transit! Jamsil has tons of express buses and short subway intervals, so it's really easy to get around without a car~

The look and feel, inside and out

Here's the exterior of this Bangi-dong food alley bar, "Horanggul Bangi Branch" :)

Interior of the restaurant with 4-person tables

Inside, the tables are set up for 4 people as standard! The spacing between tables was pretty generous, and the AC was blasting super strong, so I was very satisfied!

Basic side dish of pickled garlic stems

The basic side dish is pickled garlic stems, and eating a bite when things get rich really clears your palate!

Basic table setting
Yuzu soy dipping sauce

Yuzu soy sauce

This is a yuzu soy sauce for dipping the tofu, fried tofu, fish balls and vegetables from the motsunabe (offal hot pot)! Dipping it in the sauce makes it taste even better!

Gopchang hot pot for two, medium spice

You can choose the hot pot's spice level from mild / medium / spicy~ I wanted spicy, but thanks to my heat-averse boyfriend we ended up ordering medium ^^* The hot pot comes uncooked, and you start boiling it right at the table~ The staff set a timer for about 9 minutes, and opened it up when the timer went off~ Just wait, and eat once they tell you it's ready!!

When I took the first sip of the broth, an involuntary "kyaa~" sound just came out.. Paired with soju.. it's the kind of broth that feels like it's curing your hangover as you eat it, you know? The ingredients inside are delicious on their own, but dipping them in the yuzu soy sauce made them even better! It was packed with gopchang, meat and tofu, so it was a genuinely filling dish :)

Draft beer enjoyed with the gopchang hot pot

Draft beer

I know it's daytime.. but how could you not drink with a dish like this.. how do people even quit drinking.. how.. how... ㅠㅠ I talked my boyfriend into it and we each had a glass, and it was so, so refreshing and delicious~

Rice served with the hot pot broth
Full table spread of gopchang hot pot and rice

One bowl of rice is enough for two

Thinking it'd be a normal portion, my boyfriend and I each ordered one bowl, but the portion was so big I only ate half and left the rest ㅠㅠ I'd recommend ordering just one for two people first, and ordering more if you need it!

Wrap-up

Horanggul Bangi Branch is a Bangi-dong food alley bar where you can really taste the depth of gopchang hot pot. I had such a great time on this Jamsil date with my boyfriend after a while~ It works well for lunch or for an evening meal with drinks, so definitely check it out!
