Grilled chicken bánh mì and bar-seat lunch in Jamsil: Town Sandwich

Buying various fresh ingredients at home and putting together a sandwich is quite a project. I recently went to a big mart and nearly fainted — domestic broccoli was ₩6,000 for two heads.

4 minutes from Jamsil Station, a good spot to refuel after Lotte World

With prices skyrocketing everywhere, I heard there was a famous jambon-beurre place in Jamsil, so I hurried over. Town Sandwich Jamsil Branch has a great location too, with Lotte World and department stores nearby, so it's perfect for grabbing a bite after some casual shopping or fun.

The interior was pretty tidy too. The shop isn't huge overall, but it was a great spot to sit casually and enjoy a quiet, quick meal. Splitting plain bread and filling it with clean, upscale seasonal ingredients — this sandwich was packed with nutrition.

Jambon-beurre comes in truffle, cranberry, and plain

True to its reputation as a jambon-beurre spot in Jamsil, there were about three menu items featuring jambon-beurre ham — truffle, cranberry, and plain. These are the signature items, and it felt like everyone was ordering them. Off to one side was a self-serve bar with wet wipes, straws, and cups that all looked pretty cute.

Bar seats and a kiosk make it easy to eat solo

The bar-style table setup was great for sitting quietly in a corner and munching away at bread. The kitchen is half-open, and I could trust the bread since the manager and staff wrapped it up quickly and fresh. There was, of course, a kiosk too — a casual place where you could pick your menu without any pressure.

The standing seats were clean, and the little cactus pot was cute. The bread is toasted crispy and stuffed full of fresh ingredients. After some deliberation, here's what I picked. About ₩20,000 is enough for two people, or one hungrier person, to eat well.

Three items in total. Everything was wrapped neatly and generously, then cut and laid flat — appetizing on its own. Showing the filling through the cut is basically a strategy, I think.

It made me think I should plate food this nicely next time I have someone over. The shop's proud fresh original Town Sandwich was, as expected, appealing with its generous tomato and lettuce.

It blended subtly with the smoky aroma of the soft smoked ham, and I kept going back for more bites. It wasn't salty and felt fresh overall. The bread was soft and not sweet either — just the plain ciabatta vibe that women would love, which sealed my conclusion that this is a jambon-beurre hotspot in Jamsil.

On top of that, the grilled chicken bánh mì is made Vietnamese-style, and maybe that's why the harmony of sweet-and-sour pickled carrots and other veggies with the chicken breast was outstanding. The chicken wasn't dry at all and was well-seasoned, making me realize this place is basically a magician with seasoning.

Dip the bread in the pumpkin soup

There were two kinds of soup too. Order sweet pumpkin or cream depending on your preference, dip the bread in, and you know this is basically heaven. Overall it was a perfectly solid casual restaurant for solo dining, one of the go-to spots around the Jamsil World area. There are so many single-person households who find it tedious to even buy fresh ingredients, prep them, and wrap sandwiches with cling film.

I'm one of those people too, so it felt genuinely refreshing to find a clean, casual restaurant where my stomach didn't feel weighed down for once. I'll have to stop by again when I'm in the area.
