I finally made it to Ragu, a place a close senior of mine used to rave about nonstop back when it was in Itaewon.

Ever since I heard they'd moved to Hapjeong, I kept telling myself I had to go, and finally made it happen with a friend for a bit of a mood-setting dinner.

Once I actually ate there, I got why this place is so famous as a good-atmosphere date spot in Hapjeong, haha.

What is Ragu Hapjeong like inside? A basement room full of blind dates
The whole place has a calm atmosphere with nice lighting, and when I glanced around, it seemed like the whole room was full of people on blind dates! Thanks to that, my friend and I had a genuinely hilarious incident happen while we were eating, and made a memory I won't forget, lol. This is really a funny story!
We had a reservation that day, and my friend arrived a bit earlier than our meeting time and sat down first.
Some guy who came in for a blind date apparently mistook my friend for his date and walked up to say hi, oh no. While my friend was flustered and didn't know what to do, I happened to walk in right through the door at that exact moment.
So this guy then thought I was his blind date instead, and the second our eyes met, his eyes went completely wide. I swear, we both nearly died trying to hold back laughter right there, lol.
That's how much real-time blind dating is constantly happening around you here — it really is a hot spot for Hapjeong date activities. I laughed so hard inside I nearly cried...
Ragu Hapjeong's menu: only three dishes

Looking at the menu, Ragu Hapjeong sells exactly three things: Grandma's Ragu Pasta, Mushroom Ragu Pasta, and Ragu Steak! Having so few items means they're pouring all their effort and confidence into this one ragu sauce, so I had high expectations before even eating.

We ordered the two signature dishes — the Ragu Steak and Grandma's Ragu Pasta!

For reference, Grandma's Ragu is a rich tomato base while Mushroom Ragu is a savory white ragu base, so you can order based on your taste.

Ragu Steak with a free glass of house wine
The Ragu Steak came out first, and the plating alone looked incredible...!

The best part is that ordering the steak gets you a free glass of house wine on the side.

One glass of fragrant red wine and the whole meal instantly felt fancier — perfect to order for a Hapjeong date or a blind date!!

They said the cut of meat for the steak changes slightly day to day, and the day we went it was striploin.
I asked for medium doneness, and it came out perfectly — golden on the outside, juicy inside.
Cutting through with a knife, it sliced smoothly with no resistance, and the moment it hit my mouth the meat juices spread out with a savory richness.
Eating it with the soft mashed potatoes and whole grain mustard on the side was an amazing combination.

The meat quality itself was so good that the clean flavor kept coming through with every bite — my friend and I just kept marveling as we ate.

How does Grandma's Ragu Pasta taste? Add the baguette
Grandma's Ragu Pasta that came next was on a completely different level from the usual ground-meat ragu. Instead of just ground meat, the sauce was packed with meat pulled apart along its grain, like pulled pork.

The tomato sauce, simmered long enough to have real depth, combined with the chewy texture of the meat made every bite with the pasta insanely savory! There was so much sauce left over even after finishing all the noodles :)
It felt like such a waste to leave the remaining sauce, so I ordered a crispy-outside, soft-inside baguette on the side.
Piling the meat-loaded ragu sauce onto the crunchy baguette and taking a bite — I would have really regretted it if I hadn't ordered it.

It's a pasta place, but the baguette was so good it made me wonder how that's even possible — a perfect match with the ragu sauce.

Ragu Hapjeong also sells its ragu sauce to take home
Looking around a bit, I noticed they were selling the delicious ragu sauce packaged separately.

If you like making pasta or risotto at home, picking one up would be really worth it.
Is Ragu Hapjeong a good spot for a blind date in Hapjeong?

Ragu Hapjeong has a cute, cozy interior with a good amount of space between tables, making it a great place to eat and chat quietly.
These days, enjoying steak and wine anywhere isn't cheap, but the value for the quality here was really satisfying.

If you want to try amazing steak and life-changing ragu pasta, definitely check out the ragu steak at Ragu Hapjeong, haha.

It's great for an anniversary date, and it's exactly the kind of Hapjeong restaurant you'd want for a blind date where you can naturally settle into conversation. I'm planning to try the white ragu-based Mushroom Ragu Pasta next time!
