Samseong Station poke restaurant: 50/50 rice and salad base, Ola Poke

These days I find myself reaching for poke when I want something light but still filling. Near Samseong Station in particular, there are quite a few poke and salad spots that are great for office workers grabbing a simple lunch. This time I visited Ola Poke Samseong Branch.

What's in the self-service corner at Ola Poke Samseong Branch?

The self-service corner had everything — water, soup, utensils, extra sauces, mouthwash, even wet wipes.

Ola Poke Samseong Branch is a place near Samseong Station where you can enjoy poke and salad together, customizing the menu to your taste. This time I ordered several menu items to try together. For the poke menu, I ordered salmon poke and steak poke, one of each.

Choosing a 50/50 base of oat brown rice and salad

What I liked about Ola Poke Samseong Branch was being able to build the poke and salad exactly to my taste. This time I also chose oat brown rice with the salad. Having grains along with the vegetables felt a bit more filling than a salad with vegetables alone, making it a solid full meal.

The first menu item I'll introduce is the salmon poke. Salmon poke lets you enjoy soft salmon together with fresh vegetables, so it's personally one of my favorite poke menus. This time I paired it with the recommended sauce. It seems like the overall flavor of poke really changes depending on which sauce you pick.

Adding the recommended sauce to the soft flavor of the salmon brought out extra umami, and the two felt harmonious together. With the sauce added, it wasn't bland at all — I could enjoy it in a richer, fuller way.

The second menu item I ordered was steak poke. It has a different charm from salmon poke, so I ordered it alongside. For the steak poke, I chose wasabi sauce. The clean yet savory steak paired well with the wasabi sauce, making for a refreshingly different combination.

If the salmon poke felt soft and clean, the steak poke felt noticeably heartier. When people think of poke, they usually picture fish menus like salmon or tuna first. Choosing steak poke turned out to be a distinctive option that let me enjoy a more filling meal. The wasabi sauce also seemed to cut through the richness of the steak, which personally worked really well for me.

This time I enjoyed salmon poke and steak poke, each with a different sauce. Rather than just sticking to one menu item, ordering several and sharing them let us enjoy a variety of flavors, which was great.
