I was hunting for a good pasta spot in Dongnae and ended up at a restaurant called Sasaenghwal (사생활) in Dongnae-gu, Busan.

Inside Sasaenghwal: good for a date, easy for a solo meal

It really had a lot of character as a space. Who knew there'd be a Western restaurant with this kind of vibe in Dongnae-gu. The lighting and interior were put together carefully, so it photographed really well too. The tables were on the spacious side, so when I came with one other person we could sit comfortably.

I also liked that the seating layout wasn't awkward for solo dining! True to its name — Sasaenghwal (私生活) means 'private life' — it felt completely cut off from the outside world. I could tell why it's popular for dates among Dongnae's good-atmosphere restaurants.

The menu covers everything from solo meals to alcohol, coffee and drinks.

Gorgonzola pizza, 23,900 won: thin, crispy crust

Sasaenghwal's gorgonzola pizza is ₩23,900, made with the distinctive blue-mold cheese. The crust is thin and crispy, so when you pick up a slice the cheese stretches long. It's salty and savory with real crispy texture, and one slice just disappears.

Drizzle a little honey on it and it's basically heaven. We took the leftovers to go, haha, sniff.

Clam and shrimp oil pasta, 17,900 won: deep savory clam flavor

The clam shrimp oil pasta is ₩17,900, Sasaenghwal's signature oil pasta made with fresh clams and shrimp. The umami coming off the clams was seriously insane. It tasted light yet deep at the same time. It's a clean oil pasta without being greasy, the noodles had good texture, and there was a generous amount of shrimp and clams, so I never worried about running out of the good stuff.

As Sasaenghwal's signature dish, this belongs to their oil pasta line that usually combines pork belly, perilla leaves, dried chili and garlic scapes, but this seafood version swaps in clams and shrimp instead. It's less greasy than a cream pasta, so it's a good choice on a day you want something lighter, or to pair with the pizza.

The space is clean but not overly formal, so it works well for meals with friends, and also suits a relaxed date or family dinner. Beyond brunch, the menu spans pasta, pizza, coffee and drinks, so there's plenty to choose from depending on your mood, and it's not too far from Dongnae Station either, so access is decent.
