Gangnam lunch of braised pork and kimchi: Namdo Changpyeong Gukbap
In short
Namdo Changpyeong Gukbap is a gukbap (rice-and-soup) restaurant on Nonhyeon-ro near Yeoksam Station in Gangnam, Seoul. On this repeat lunch visit the order was ambppong sundae gukbap (sow offal and blood sausage soup) at 13,000 won and braised pork and kimchi in a clay pot (kimchi-jjim) at 12,000 won, plus the small set upgrade that adds a plate of sundae and suyuk (sliced boiled pork). Namdo Changpyeong Gukbap pairs a clear, market-style broth with a sharply spicy kimchi dish, so anyone sensitive to heat should start with the gukbap.

Today I'm bringing you a review of a place I want to recommend for anyone looking for a Yeoksam Station lunch spot: Namdo Changpyeong Gukbap. *This is a repeat visit!!

When you think of gukbap restaurants in Yeoksam-dong, there are actually quite a few options to choose from, which can make it hard to decide. But this place has a broth base that tastes exactly like the gukbap you'd get at a traditional market, so if you love gukbap, this might be right up your alley.
Where Namdo Changpyeong Gukbap is and what the restaurant feels like

Namdo Changpyeong Gukbap is a gukbap specialty restaurant located near Yeoksam Station. Search '남도창평국밥 역삼본점' on your map app and you'll find it right away.

The interior is spacious with generous spacing between tables, so it felt like a comfortable setup whether you're dining solo or with a group.

There's a self-serve corner with banchan (side dishes) and sauces, so you can help yourself to as much as you need.

Hours are 11 AM to midnight. Closed on Sundays!
What we ordered this time, and what it cost
Namdo Changpyeong Gukbap's signature dish is sijang gukbap (market-style gukbap), but I already tried that last time, so this time I went for something different. If you're curious about the sijang gukbap, check out my previous review!
This time I ordered it like this.
- Ambbong sundae gukbap ₩13,000
- Pork kimchi jjigae in a stone pot ₩12,000
Ambbong sundae gukbap is a soup loaded with sundae (Korean blood sausage), while the stone pot pork kimchi jjigae comes with thoroughly braised kimchi and tender pork served piping hot in a stone pot.

By the way, gukbap dishes can be upgraded to a set for a small extra charge — more on that below.
How does the ambppong sundae gukbap taste?
For this Yeoksam Station lunch, I ordered two dishes: ambbong sundae gukbap and stone pot pork kimchi jjigae.

Starting with the ambbong sundae gukbap — the sundae was genuinely delicious. The broth is on the clear side, but it paired surprisingly well with the sundae, and I kept reaching for my spoon.

The broth base felt similar to what you'd get at a regular market gukbap place, so if you're a gukbap fan, it'll feel familiar and comfortable to eat.

The set upgrade: a plate of sundae and suyuk
For just a bit more money, you can upgrade to a set, so I ordered one that way. With the set, sundae and suyuk (boiled pork slices) come out together on one plate, and the suyuk was way better than I expected — honestly good enough that I thought I might come back another time just for suyuk and drinks, skipping the gukbap entirely.

I'd recommend dipping the sundae in chojang (vinegared red pepper paste) and perilla seed sauce rather than eating it plain. The combination worked so well that I kept dipping every single piece the whole way through.

How spicy is the clay-pot braised pork and kimchi?
Next up is the stone pot pork kimchi jjigae — a dish I'd recommend if you like a spicy, punchy broth. It was spicier than expected, but in a good way, not just heat for heat's sake, and my bowl of rice disappeared in no time.

The pork was also cooked tender, and eating it together with the kimchi made me keep reaching for more rice.
Ordering tips and the verdict on Namdo Changpyeong Gukbap
When eating the sundae, definitely try the chojang plus perilla seed sauce combo — it really doubles the flavor. If you're sensitive to spice, I'd recommend trying the ambbong sundae gukbap or the meat gukbap first rather than the stone pot pork kimchi jjigae. It's spicier than you'd expect, so keep that in mind if you're not great with spicy food.

Overall, this is a place that works well both as a Yeoksam Station lunch spot and as somewhere to grab suyuk or sundae with a drink after work.

If you're looking for a gukbap restaurant in Yeoksam-dong, I'd recommend giving the ambbong sundae gukbap and pork kimchi jjigae combo a try — you won't regret it.
