Gwangjin Korean BBQ, grilled pork belly: Ssamchae
In short
Ssamchae Sotttukkeong Samgyeopsal is a Korean BBQ restaurant in Gwangjin, Seoul. We had two portions of staff-grilled pork belly with unlimited wrap vegetables, spicy minari kalguksu, fried rice, and bibim naengmyeon. Verdict: a filling choice when you want pork belly with plenty of fresh wraps.

Pot-lid pork belly within walking distance of Guui Station
Ssamchae Sotttukkeong Samgyeopsal was a 10-minute walk from Exit 4 of Guui Station, so it was easy to reach by public transit. It was on the first floor, and they were also running a promotion with draft beer for ₩1,900 and soju/beer for ₩2,900!

A pleasant interior and unlimited wrap-vegetable self-service bar
The interior of Ssamchae Sotttukkeong Samgyeopsal was pleasant and clean.

We could enjoy unlimited wrap vegetables and a variety of side dishes, too!
Tablet table ordering and a wide range of meat dishes

Ordering was convenient through a tablet at the table. There were meat set menus, individual meat dishes, lunch specials, and side dishes, and so much more. From pork belly and pork neck to chewy pork, pork jowl, beef rib meat, and flat iron steak, there were lots of different cuts, so we could have both beef and pork. I loved having so many options~
A self-service bar for lettuce, side dishes, and more
It was a self-service bar where we could freely take unlimited fresh wrap vegetables such as lettuce, perilla leaves, napa cabbage, kale, and chicory, plus side dishes including kimchi, bean sprouts, bracken fern, and onions! Ssamjang (fermented soybean dipping paste), sauces, pepper, tableware, and wet wipes were all set out right beside the vegetables too, haha.
Ordering two portions of pork belly and dessert dishes
- Pork belly, 2 portions ₩34,000
- Spicy minari kalguksu (dessert menu) ₩7,000
- Fried rice ₩3,000
- Bibim naengmyeon ₩5,000

These are the basic side dishes they brought out for us.

Here are the delicious wrap vegetables we brought back generously from the self-service bar.

Pot-lid pork belly grilled by the staff
Our two portions of pork belly arrived! The staff even provided grilling service, cooking and cutting the meat for us. It was so convenient, haha.

When the pork belly is sizzling deliciously on the huge pot lid, with kimchi, bracken fern, bean sprouts, garlic, and mushrooms all added on top to grill!!

I felt like grilling it on the pot lid brought out the meat's flavor even more!

The pork belly itself was nutty and tasty even on its own, but eating it with the wrap vegetables cut through the richness and kept me reaching for more~ As I piled pork belly and this and that into my wraps, the two portions disappeared in no time, haha.

Finishing with spicy minari kalguksu, fried rice, and bibim naengmyeon
The spicy minari kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup) that came as dessert had lots of minari (water celery) and mushrooms, which made the broth subtly fragrant. If it had meat in it too, I think it could rival Deungchon Kalguksu!! Slurping up the kalguksu noodles in the warm broth felt like such a comforting finish.

When it comes to a Korean BBQ restaurant's finishing dish, fried rice is a must! After enjoying the meat grilled on the pot lid, frying rice in the remaining meaty flavor was simply the best!

We ordered bibim naengmyeon (spicy mixed cold noodles) too. They brought a generous amount of broth separately, so we could add it and mix it to our liking. The bouncy noodles and tangy, spicy seasoning went so well together, and eating it with a piece of meat made my mouth feel refreshed. Pork belly and naengmyeon really are a combination that never fails.
A generously filling meal with wrap vegetables
That day, we had two portions of pork belly, spicy minari kalguksu, fried rice, and bibim naengmyeon, and it was such a generous, delicious meal overall! If you are looking for a meat restaurant around Guui Station or Guui-dong, or simply craving pork belly and wondering where to go, I recommend Ssamchae Sotttukkeong Samgyeopsal, where you can enjoy unlimited wrap vegetables too~ Next time I crave pork belly again, I plan to come back and try the dishes we did not get to have this time!
