Seoul Station Japanese restaurant with rice refills: Ichigyu

In short

Ichigyu Seoul Station Branch is a Japanese restaurant near Seoul Station in Jung-gu, Seoul, where diners grill gyukatsu at individual tabletop braziers. I ordered the Gyukatsu No. 1 Set again for its crisp coating, tender beef, and refillable rice. Verdict: a satisfying pick for a different kind of Seoul Station lunch.

Gyukatsu information at Ichigyu Seoul Station Branch

While looking for somewhere to have lunch near Seoul Station, I visited Ichigyu Seoul Station Branch, a great spot for brazier-grilled gyukatsu (breaded beef cutlet). This was actually my second visit. I remembered enjoying it so much last time that I did not spend long debating the menu this time either—I ordered the Gyukatsu No. 1 Set. There are lots of places to eat around Seoul Station, but sometimes you want something different from the usual. That is when I would recommend brazier-grilled gyukatsu.

Ordering the Gyukatsu No. 1 Set

Full lunch-hour seating and a varied menu

When I walked in, every seat was already full. As expected of a popular place. People were waiting after us, too. Lucky, lucky haha. Since it is near Seoul Station, I saw lots of office workers, and plenty of people were ordering hambak omurice (hamburger steak omelet rice) as well as gyukatsu. There are also steak donburi, steak set meals, cold soba, shrimp tempura, teppan chop steak, Japanese curry, and more, so there is quite a range beyond gyukatsu. Everyone can choose what suits their taste.

How should you eat the Gyukatsu No. 1 Set?

After ordering and waiting a little, the Gyukatsu No. 1 Set arrived. Along with the crisply fried gyukatsu, each table is set with a personal brazier, so you can grill it right away. At first I gave the beef just a quick sear; it was crisp outside and tender within, so delicious. Then I cooked it a little longer for more crunch, and the texture changed depending on how far it was cooked, which made grilling it fun. Since you cook it yourself, it definitely feels different from ordinary tonkatsu (breaded pork cutlet).

Grilling it with Isigny butter

My personal favorite was the Isigny butter. Melt it on the brazier and grill the beef with it, and it adds a rich, nutty flavor. I love that strong buttery aroma, so I put it all in at once and grill, grill, grill before eating. If you love butter like I do, you can add as much as you like for ₩1,000.

A gyukatsu meal with refillable rice

The Gyukatsu No. 1 Set comes with rice, soup, and side dishes, making it more than enough for a full meal. The rice portion is especially generous, and you can get refills too, so I think even big eaters could leave feeling full.

There is a receipt review event, too

Ichigyu Seoul Station Branch is also running a receipt review event. You can receive shrimp tempura and grillable cheese. I was too full to take part, but lightly grilling cheese on the brazier sounds so delicious too. Adding sides alongside the gyukatsu would make the meal feel even more abundant. If you visit, do not forget to check out the review event.

Another satisfying Seoul Station lunch

I piled plenty on at once and grilled it up deliciously. I enjoyed this visit too, so once again I was satisfied. The gyukatsu itself was good, and the crisp breading and tender beef worked so well together. If you like gyukatsu, I think it would be worth visiting at least once. It suited my taste enough that I came back after trying it once, so I recommend Ichigyu Seoul Station Branch if you are looking for a tasty lunch near Seoul Station. Naver reservations are available too!
