Once you decide to finally do something about your hair, the deliberating somehow drags on forever. Long hair especially feels too precious to cut, but leaving it as is starts to feel a bit dull too. This time I wanted to change things up on my long, straight hair, so I went to Yeum Hair Nowon District Office branch, a hair salon near Nowon Station. Spoiler: the vibe walking in and the vibe walking out ended up pretty different haha^^

Yeum Hair Nowon District Office branch is on the 2nd floor of a building with a Starbucks on the ground floor. I worried I might walk right past the building on my first visit, but it was easier to spot than expected. "Ah, this is it!" — I recognized it right away. Looking up, you can see the big YEWOOM Yeum Hair sign too.

This is what the building's main entrance looks like. Sometimes on a first visit you end up circling the whole building looking for the entrance, but that won't happen here. There's a Yeum Hair banner right in front of the entrance, so you just walk straight in.

Coming up to the 2nd floor, the YEWOOM HAIR logo is right there. Overall it uses white and wood tones, so the feeling was clean and calm rather than busy or flashy.

The hallway leading further inside is pretty tidy too. From the moment I walked in, the impression was calm rather than the usual chaotic salon energy.

Long, straight hair before the perm

Alright, here's my hair before the service. It's long and straight, so the texture itself is calm, but the overall look — hair just falling straight down — could come across as a bit plain. The plan was to change the mood while keeping as much length as possible! From this point on, I started getting curious how this long hair would turn out.

Drinks, the shampoo, and the hand-mask gloves

When a service runs long, a cup of coffee becomes genuinely welcome. They brought drinks and snacks too, so I had a little café break while waiting. Is it just me, or does coffee at a hair salon somehow taste better than usual?

Then the shampoo started. With an eye cover and a blanket over me, this is basically half-nap mode. If I had to pick the sleepiest moment at any hair salon, it's shampoo time, no question. Once the warm water hits and the head massage starts, I start wondering, "Did I come here to get my hair done, or to take a nap?"

Then I glanced over and saw some kind of glove appear. At first I thought, "Why would I wear this?" — turns out it was a hand-care mask. It's a way to take care of your hands while your hair is being done.

They put one on each hand for me, which was oddly fun. Hair getting worked on, hands in mask gloves… at this point I genuinely started to wonder whether I came in for a hair appointment or a full spa day. For a perm, which means sitting for a long time, little touches like this really stick in your memory.

Wave perm result: same length, a different mood

And then, finally, the change started showing. Even still wet from the shampoo, the waves were completely visible compared to when it was straight. Quite a different feeling from the first photo, right?

From a slightly different angle, the waves show even better. Rather than tightly set curls, it had a natural, flowing movement that suited the long hair well. Best of all, I liked that the mood could change without drastically cutting the length. Anyone who's grown their hair long for years knows — even trimming 5cm takes some mental preparation.

After the service, I sat back down and checked again. Even not fully dry yet, the waves flowed naturally through the whole length. Compared to the calm, straight hair at the start, it turned into something much softer and more of a mood. I think this is the fun of a perm — the length barely changes, but the impression a person gives changes quite a bit.

After the service, I looked around the salon again. Instead of seats crammed in a row, the space was divided fairly generously, and the large mirrors paired well with the wood-tone furniture. During my visit, several services were going on at once, so the salon had a pretty lively energy.

Looking further in, the salon is bigger than it first appears. Natural light comes in through the windows, and the overall colors are bright, so it never felt cramped.

She took great care with the details, and the assistant really just assisted — my designer handled the perm rolling from start to finish herself. At some other salons the assistant does that part, so this especially stood out to me!! All the staff were lovely, and the shampoo, scalp treatment, and massage were sooo good^^ Totally satisfied!!!
