A Gangnam Station café recommendation: Selected Nicks

I had a meetup near Gangnam Station, so I went back after a while. Gangnam always has so many people and so many cafés that I end up agonizing over where to go every time. This time I already had a spot picked out, so I headed straight there — Selected Nicks.

Selected Nicks is within walking distance of exit 3 of Gangnam Station, so it wasn't hard to find. It's been a while since I've seen a café near Gangnam Station where the building itself is this big, so I was already kind of excited before even walking in.

Floors split into their own spaces, fun just to look around

The vibe here was a bit different from your typical small café. They use basement level 1 through the 3rd floor, plus the 8th floor and a rooftop, so the scale is pretty large. There's outdoor seating near the 1st-floor entrance too. When you're looking for a café near Gangnam Station, there are plenty of pretty spots, but they're often packed or the seats are cramped — here, the space is split across floors, so it was fun just exploring.

And I really loved the rooftop. Since it's right in the middle of Gangnam, I figured you'd just see buildings even from the roof, but once I got up there the view was surprisingly open and it put me in a great mood. It was fun drinking coffee downstairs and then heading up to the rooftop to look around.

The 2nd-floor hidden room is reservation-only

On the 2nd floor there's a hidden room that you can book and use by reservation. It looked good for meetings, or for a group of friends who want to hang out comfortably over coffee. If you're looking for a café near Gangnam Station that's more than just a place to sit and drink coffee — somewhere you can also look around and take photos — this kind of large café is definitely convenient.

The 8th floor in particular has a relatively quiet space that looked good for working on a laptop or spending time alone. I came for a meetup this time, but it made me think it'd be nice to come back alone sometime, just for a cup of coffee.

Order on the 1st floor — the tiramisu package is great for gifts too

You order on the 1st floor and then head up to whichever floor you want to use. The desserts caught my eye first — there was a whole bakery section along with a wide variety of tiramisu. The tiramisu packages looked so upscale that they'd make great gifts.

Classic tiramisu and two iced americanos

After some deliberation I picked the classic tiramisu. My thinking was that at a new place, you should always try the basic menu first — and to cut to the conclusion, it was genuinely delicious.

I also ordered two iced americanos, and eating the sweet, soft tiramisu together with the bitter iced americano was such a great combo. The tiramisu wasn't overwhelmingly sweet, so it paired really well with coffee. So if you want coffee plus a genuinely good dessert near Gangnam Station, Selected Nicks seems like a solid choice.

That day I only had two iced americanos and the classic tiramisu, but it was so good that now I'm curious about the other flavors. Next time I want to try other kinds of tiramisu and pick out a bakery item too.

Would I come back here for a Gangnam meetup?

More than anything, I loved discovering a café near Gangnam Station that even has a rooftop. Having coffee and dessert, then heading up top for a look at the Gangnam skyline, was a nice little mood-changer. It was a good day — I happened to stumble on a place I really liked on a rare trip out to Gangnam. Next time I have a meetup in Gangnam, I'll probably swing by again. I had the classic tiramisu this time, so next time I'll have to try something else on the menu.
