The Hongdae gukbap restaurant I return to for lunch
There's one gukbap restaurant I always end up at whenever I'm in Hongdae for lunch. If you're on your own in Hongdae or need to eat fast, Yukjeon Gukbap is basically a lifesaver.

Even during peak lunch hour, the gukbap and yukjeon (pan-fried beef slices) come out within 10 minutes of ordering, so you can be done eating in 20 minutes flat. This time our workshop venue happened to be close by, so lunch was quick and easy.

Open 24 hours a day with no break time
Being open 24 hours also means there's no break time, so you can eat comfortably whenever you want.
Located at 9-1 Wolgeukbuk-ro, 1st floor, Mapo-gu, Seoul, Yukjeon Gukbap boasts excellent access right near Hongik University Station. It runs 24 hours a day, every day (closed on Chuseok holiday), with no break time, so you can enjoy a good bowl of gukbap whenever you like.

The secret to the flavor is fresh ingredients simmered with care every day, plus yukjeon pan-fried to order for that nutty, savory finish.

Parking: about 4 spaces in front of Yukjeon Gukbap
If you're driving, there are about 4 parking spots right in front of the store, and when they're full you can head a short way toward Hongdae to use the paid Two Parking lot at the Hongik University Station intersection. Being able to eat quickly and comfortably even on a busy schedule is a big part of why this place is such a well-known Hongdae favorite.

What comes with the beef gukbap set in a brass bowl
Once you sit down and order, it doesn't take long before a neat, generous spread is set in front of you.

The yukjeon gukbap comes in an elegant brass bowl, steam rising off a spicy, deep red broth that really gets your appetite going.

Inside the broth, well-boiled napa cabbage greens, crunchy bean sprouts, and fresh green onion toppings are piled high, making for a hearty bowl.

What the egg-battered yukjeon looks like
The yukjeon served alongside is beef coated in egg wash and pan-fried until golden brown and crisp — a striking golden look. It's cut into neat, easy-to-eat rectangles and layered on the plate, showing off soft, chewy cross-sections of beef that make it clear at a glance why this is a standout Hongdae favorite.

How does the beef gukbap taste?
The gukbap, piled high in the brass bowl, hits you with a rich, spicy flavor spreading through your whole mouth from the very first spoonful. It's packed with well-cooked napa cabbage greens and vegetables, so there's a great bite to it, and when you mix in rice and take a big spoonful, you get that deep, comforting savoriness that just hits the spot.

The yukjeon, fried fresh to order, has a crispy egg coating on the outside while the beef inside stays thin and tender, striking a perfect balance between nutty richness and lean beefiness. Take a bite of the spicy gukbap topped with a warm piece of yukjeon, and the nutty and spicy flavors come together in perfect harmony.

Who is Yukjeon Gukbap Seogyo Branch best for?
The fact that food comes out so fast that you can have a satisfying meal in under 20 minutes is a huge plus for a busy day. Yukjeon Gukbap is hands-down a top choice for office workers or students near Hongdae who want a quick, filling lunch.
I'd highly recommend it to anyone near Hongik University Station looking for a restaurant where solo dining feels easy, or anyone who wants comforting warm Korean food even late at night or in the early morning hours. If you want to experience the fantastic combo of freshly pan-fried, nutty yukjeon and rich gukbap, this go-to Hongdae gukbap spot is well worth a visit.
