Yeonnam-dong snack bar with vegetable gimbap and chicken: Eungkeum
In short
Eungkeum Tteokbokki Yeonnam Branch is a 24-hour snack restaurant in Yeonnam-dong, Mapo, Seoul, serving tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes), gimbap (seaweed rice rolls), sundae (blood sausage) and fried chicken in one sitting. After a nearby flea market, the writer ordered soupy tteokbokki with chewy rice cakes, boneless fried chicken, sundae and a Natural Vegetable Gimbap, and the thick-cut gimbap packed with fresh fillings was the most memorable plate. A spicy, filling dinner that pairs tteokbokki with several chicken options at any hour.

A Yeonnam-dong snack dinner after the flea market
Yesterday I went to a flea market in Yeonnam-dong, Gumirae Yeonhui Market. It ended around 7pm, just when I was getting hungry, so I looked up good spots nearby and found Eungkeum Tteokbokki. It's not just tteokbokki (spicy rice cake stew) — they also do gimbap (seaweed rice roll), sundae (blood sausage), fried snacks, and even chicken. It's basically a full snack-food restaurant. We ended up with a much bigger, better dinner than expected. Keep an eye out especially for the gimbap here — it tasted even better than it looked ^^

The Yeonnam flea market, Gumirae Yeonhui Market, was held at Dongjin Parking Lot on September 12–13, so today is the last day.

Walking to this 24-hour snack restaurant from Hongik Univ. Station
The exterior alone screams hip Yeonnam-dong restaurant. The flashy neon sign catches your eye from far away. It's about a 10-minute walk from Hongik Univ. Station Exit 3, and just 3 minutes on foot from Dongjin Parking Lot where the flea market wrapped up. It's open 24 hours, every day, so you can get your Yeonnam-dong snack food fix any time.

They also have a wide range of drinking snacks, so beyond simple meals like tteokbokki, gimbap, and udon, it's a great spot for a second round of drinks too.
What is Eungkeum Tteokbokki Yeonnam Branch like inside?

The interior is clean and tidy. There were a lot of foreign customers around. Since it was Saturday and the weather was that perfect not-too-hot-not-too-cold kind, the whole Hongdae-Yeonnam-dong area was packed with people.
What we ordered at Eungkeum Tteokbokki, plus the review event

They have so many set menus that I spent a while just looking through them. Tteok-twi-sun (tteokbokki, fried snacks, sundae) is the standard snack-restaurant combo, but I also wanted fried chicken, so after some deliberating we ordered: Tteokbokki + Half Chicken ₩15,900, rice cake upgrade +₩500, sundae ₩6,500 with organs added +₩1,000, and Natural Vegetable Gimbap ₩5,900.

If you take part in the review event, you get a free drink — Asahi bottled beer, soju, cola, or Sprite. Friendly service and good vibes, definitely a Yeonnam-dong spot I'd go back to.

So, what do you think of this ₩30,000 spread of happiness from a Yeonnam-dong tteokbokki restaurant? Every dish was tasty, and honestly it felt like really good value for the price.

How spicy is the soupy rice-cake tteokbokki?
This is a soup-style tteokbokki you keep simmering warm on an induction burner, and it's a bit spicier than Shin Ramyun. My husband can't handle spicy food well, but he surprisingly managed this Yeonnam-dong tteokbokki just fine. For me, it was an absolute favorite.

The chicken was crispy outside, juicy inside, and paired really well with the tteokbokki. The half chicken came boneless. The sauce came on the side, so we got to enjoy it several ways — dipped in salt as plain fried chicken, coated as yangnyeom (sweet-spicy) chicken, and mixed with the tteokbokki sauce.

My husband doesn't like wheat-flour tteok in tteokbokki. Since you can choose rice cake instead when ordering, that was exactly what we needed. Just ₩500 extra — worth it! I like both wheat and rice versions, but the chewy Eungkeum rice tteok was my favorite.

For the sundae, I asked them to leave out the lungs from the organ mix. It was chapsundae (glutinous rice sundae), a familiar taste, and it went really well with the tteokbokki sauce.

Natural Vegetable Gimbap: thick-cut and full of fresh fillings
I genuinely fell for the gimbap at this Yeonnam-dong snack restaurant — and this is just the basic vegetable gimbap. The ingredients were super fresh and the seasoning was spot on, so it was really good. It is pretty large though, so it filled my mouth completely and was a bit hard to chew at first, haha.
Even looking back at it now, the gimbap ends look mouthwateringly good. They have several kinds of gimbap, so next time I want to try two different ones. Pairing it with a cold Asahi bottled beer made everything taste even better. This felt like the perfect finishing touch to a Yeonnam-dong snack-food meal — draft beer would probably be just as good with it. If you're looking for a good tteokbokki or gimbap spot in Yeonnam-dong, this friendly, good-vibes restaurant is worth a try.
