Sinchon pork bone hangover soup, unlimited rice: Pyeongando Sikdang

The weather's gotten cooler lately, so I've been craving haejang-guk (hangover soup). Haha!! Plus I'm a Korean-food person so I love hangover soup soooo much. While hunting for a good haejang-guk spot I found Pyeongando Sikdang Sinchon Branch, a Sinchon haejang-guk restaurant. Its Naver rating was crazy high at 4.85, so my expectations went way up!!

What is Pyeongando Sikdang Sinchon like at 11am?

I'm the type who avoids waiting at restaurants, so I got there at 11am hoping for an early lunch — but oh my goodness, the hall was already packed with customers at that hour. I was shocked 😮 haha.

I wondered if everyone was just really serious about hangover soup this early in the morning haha. And I thought, this really is a Sinchon must-visit. Even with lots of customers and delivery orders keeping them busy, the staff were super kind, which made me feel good too haha.

Menu and what comes with each set

Pyeongando Sikdang Sinchon Branch has a really wide variety of hangover soups — sundae-guk (blood sausage soup), somori-gukbap (beef head soup), innards soup, bone haejang-guk, seolleongtang (ox bone soup), yukgaejang (spicy beef soup) and more. Even the single-item bowls are hearty, but if you want even more, order the set — the soup comes with sundae and머릿고기 (head meat, sliced) thrown in together, and it's such good value! The price is really reasonable too!! So satisfying!!!

Plus, right at the entrance there's a big sign announcing unlimited rice refills 🍚 Great for anyone with a big appetite who wants to add rice without worrying about it, haha.

I ordered the bone haejang-guk set (₩15,000) and the beef innards soup set (₩15,000).

How do the two hangover soup sets taste?

The beef innards soup set and the bone haejang-guk set have arrived!! Side dishes: napa cabbage kimchi, diced radish kimchi, peppers, onion, salted shrimp, ssamjang (seasoned soybean paste), and sauce.

Bone haejang-guk set (15,000 won)

Bubble bubble bubble! The moment the stone pot arrives, the visual alone is just majestic. Haha. The pot was huge lol.

Two big, meaty bones sit right in there. The moment I took a sip of the rich broth, out came a 'kyaaa~~~' sound involuntarily lol. The broth is delicious, the meat is delicious, haha.

I also really love sundae, haha. I ate two pieces plain first, then dunked the rest in the broth so it felt like eating sundae-guk and bone haejang-guk at the same time lol.

Beef innards soup set (15,000 won)

This is the beef innards soup set my husband picked.

You know how innards soup can easily end up with a gamy smell if you're not careful? But here, it had no gamy smell at all — savory and deep. I compared it side by side with the bone haejang-guk broth wondering if it was the same seasoning, but nope, they're completely different, haha.

There's a decent amount of innards in the soup too! My husband, who at first saw the free-rice-refill sign and said 'does anyone actually add more? wouldn't that be too much?'... ended up taking half a bowl of MY rice lol.

It was that good — both of us were completely satisfied, this Sinchon haejang-guk spot! Haha.

By the way, the kimchi here is amazing too, haha. You'll need at least two refills. Haha.

Final verdict: would we go back to Pyeongando Sikdang?

Pyeongando Sikdang Sinchon Branch — there was a good reason customers were already packed in at 11am. The hearty sets, the flavor, the kindness, and unlimited rice refills!!! And it's open 24 hours!! Delicious and generous enough that I'll definitely be back — a true Sinchon haejang-guk must-visit. 👍🏻👍🏻
