Fall, the season of grilled shrimp and daeha (large shrimp), is finally here. As a self-proclaimed shrimp fanatic, this is the season I wait for all year — daeha grilling season, haha :)
I wanted sashimi and grilled shrimp both, and since this place is famous as a sashimi restaurant in Guwol-dong and also sells grilled shrimp in portions perfect for pairing with sashimi, I visited Veteran General Fish Market Guwol Branch. Let me introduce it :)
Where is Veteran General Fish Market Incheon Guwol Branch, and which door do you use?
Veteran General Fish Market Incheon Guwol Branch is a sashimi restaurant on Inha-ro 507beon-gil in Namdong-gu, Incheon, with both a front and back entrance. Below is the back-door exterior.

This is the front-door exterior. There are entrances at both the front and back.
Veteran General Fish Market Guwol Branch offers both takeout and delivery apps.
Inside: group tables, the back-door tent area, and the front private room
Inside, Veteran General Fish Market Guwol Branch is divided into group seating, a back-door tent-style area, and a room behind the front kitchen. Even though I visited on a weekday avoiding evening peak hours, there were still a lot of customers.
There's group seating available too.

On the back-door side there's a space where you can eat with an outdoor-tent feel. The place is already spacious, and they've made good use of it.

If you'd like a bit more quiet, you can go into the room behind the kitchen on the front-door side.

What is at the self-bar, and how to make the kimchi pancake
If you need extra side dishes, you can just use the self-bar.

Next to the self-bar you can even make your own kimchi pancake (kimchijeon)! The batter was seasoned well, so the pancake turned out tasty too.

Ordering by kiosk: seasonal dishes in mini and small sizes
You order via the kiosk at each table. Since it's shad and shrimp season, shad sashimi, shrimp sashimi, and grilled shrimp all seemed to be selling well. If you want to try a few different things, there are mini and small sizes, so ordering doesn't feel like a burden. They're also running a review event, so keep that in mind :)
We ordered a small salt-grilled shrimp (daeha) and a solo-size flounder sashimi. I wanted both salt-grilled shrimp and sashimi, and since there's a solo-size flounder sashimi option, the portion and price weren't a burden at all. If you want something more filling, there are set menus too, like the couple's set for two, so keep that in mind.
Here's what the side dish setup looked like.
Salt-grilled shrimp (daeha), small order
The lively, fresh salt-grilled shrimp came out first.

I happen to be a master shrimp-peeler (lol). I diligently peeled the perfectly cooked shrimp. They peeled easily, so they were easy to eat.
You know how good it tastes dipped in chojang (vinegared chili sauce) with wasabi, right?

Flounder sashimi for one, on a stone plate over ice
Here's the solo-size flounder sashimi. The sashimi came on a stone plate set right on top of ice, which kept it fresh the whole time.

The flounder sashimi was fresh and delicious even just dipped plain in soy sauce with wasabi.

Wrapped in perilla leaf with ssamjang, wasabi, onion, and radish sprouts, the flounder sashimi tasted even better, and it was also a treat wrapped in seaweed or white kimchi and dipped in soy sauce with wasabi.

You know how they cut off the shrimp heads and set them aside separately, right? If you order those heads grilled with butter separately, they taste even better :)

We cleared the plate down to the last piece ^_^
There were also outdoor tables on the front-door side. Isn't this weather perfect for eating outdoors? I'd recommend that spot to anyone who wants to enjoy the outdoor-tent vibe ^_^
Is this Guwol-dong seafood restaurant good for group dinners?
Veteran General Fish Market Guwol Branch, famous as a sashimi restaurant in Guwol-dong, has a wide variety of seafood and a spacious layout, making it a good fit for all kinds of gatherings and group dinners.
There's a set menu for two, and the solo-size sashimi, mini sashimi, and small daeha grilled shrimp all come in sizes perfect for pairing together. It seems like a great place to order when you want to enjoy a variety of things. Besides salt-grilled shrimp, they also sell shad sashimi in mini size, which is nice if you feel it'd be a shame to only have shad sashimi alone.
I heard their mul-hoe (cold raw fish soup) is also famous for being delicious, so be sure to try that too. If you love seafood and are looking for a great sashimi restaurant, I recommend Veteran General Fish Market Incheon Guwol Branch in Guwol-dong :)
