Craving a bite of sweet seasoned pork ribs on top of a bowl of white rice, I headed to Galbijeong. Galbijeong's signature dish is seasoned pork ribs made with domestic hanwoo pork (한돈, Korean-raised pork) — apparently the sauce gets its natural sweetness from Asian pear and onion. On top of that, staff grill everything for you from start to finish, so you can just relax and eat!
They even have a kids' area, making it a great spot for family meals too ♡ Let me introduce Galbijeong, the Hyeonpung rib restaurant.

Parking and the restaurant's atmosphere

Galbijeong is in a building with its own parking lot, and there's plenty of space, so driving there is easy.
Take the elevator up to the second floor and Galbijeong is right there — a big, spotless space with a warm, wood-filled interior.

Galbijeong has both a Catch Table system and a waiting zone. When it's busy, you can just enter your phone number, look around while you wait, and come back when it's your turn to be seated right away.

Galbijeong mostly has sofa-style table seating, plus an 8-person group table.
If you make a group reservation, you'll be seated in the VIP room — a good option for important occasions or company dinners.

It's on the second floor, and the large windows give a nice open feeling while you eat.

There's also a play room for kids who get bored while eating, plus a capsule toy machine just for them — a perfect spot for family meals in Hyeonpung!
What wrap vegetables are at the self-serve bar?

𖧷 Galbijeong self-serve bar 𖧷 There's a wide selection of wrap greens at the self-serve bar — everything from green lettuce and perilla leaves to angelica leaves, which you don't see often. Anyone who loves ssam (wrapped bites) will be happy here. There are also sliced potatoes, so you can make a potato wrap too.

Once you order, the table gets set up neatly like this. The basic side dishes were more generous than I expected. The utensils come individually wrapped and the wet wipes were nice and thick, which felt very hygienic.
Basic side dishes and meat sauces

𖧷 Galbijeong basic side dishes 𖧷 The banchan (side dishes) include beef pancake, marinated crab, pickled pepper strips, gungchae (aster greens), scallion kimchi, and more, plus garlic scapes, garlic, and sliced potatoes you can grill in oil. For dipping sauces there's scallion shreds and garlic oil, wasabi, and more — plenty of combinations to enjoy the meat with.

My favorite was the shiitake wasabi — you get that sharp wasabi kick along with the chewy texture of the mushroom, a combination that goes really well with the meat.

Galbijeong, a Hyeonpung favorite, also serves marinated crab as a side dish. Nice as a light bite before the meal. Press it gently and the flesh comes out so soft and delicious. No fishy taste at all, and it went great with rice.
The order — three servings of ribs and a hidden doenjang jjigae

Actually, wait — correcting: The menu board only shows the 'royal' doenjang, but on the order tablet there's actually a ₩2,000 doenjang jjigae. You can also choose to have it spicy.

Tableside grilling service by the staff

The ribs came out pretty quickly after ordering. They're not overly fatty, with a good meat-to-fat ratio. You don't grill it yourself here — the staff grill it for you, so you just wait and let them handle it, which was really convenient.

As they grill each piece, the staff explain how best to eat it. The first piece is best eaten plain, to taste the rib's natural flavor and tender texture. After that, try it with the scallion sauce or garlic sauce that pair so well with the ribs for extra savoriness. Eating it with shiitake wasabi is also a treat — that was my favorite combo, and I had the most of it that way.

Once the grill is hot enough, they put the meat on. Seasoned meat burns easily, but since a pro is grilling it, there's no need to worry — you just enjoy it.
They flip the meat at just the right moments so it doesn't burn, and cut it into bite-sized pieces, which made it really easy to eat.
Well-cooked meat dipped in garlic sauce and scallion sauce brings out each of their own charms — so, so good ♥

The garlic sauce has a sharp bite and a nutty oiliness that goes well with the savory ribs,

and the scallion sauce brings out the seasoned rib sauce even more, with the scallion's aroma pairing nicely.

Put warm rice over a fresh leaf, add a well-cooked piece of rib, then top it with shiitake wasabi for its sharp kick and plump mushroom texture — that makes for a truly delicious wrap.
The ribs were so tender, and the seasoning was savory and sweet in a way that kept me reaching for more.
Finishing with a spicy doenjang jjigae

Doenjang jjigae - ₩2,000. A generous portion, spicy the way we ordered it — delicious with rice, and it also went well eaten between bites of meat. A perfect finishing touch! 😎
Made with domestic hanwoo pork, the very tender meat pairs beautifully with a sweet, savory sauce — the kind of seasoned rib bite that rewards a hard day, which is exactly why Galbijeong's Hyeonpung branch is known for it. Perfect for everything from family dinners to work get-togethers — go enjoy a great meal at Galbijeong's Hyeonpung location!
