A family gukbap (Korean soup with rice) spot 10 minutes from Samsung Lions Park

Today we went to watch baseball at Samsung Lions Park in Suseong, Daegu, and while looking for a family-friendly restaurant nearby, we found this place about 10 minutes away by car. Craving something warm to fight off a cold and some cool mulhoe too, we ended up at Seobine Haejangguk.

It's been so scorching hot, is it finally turning into fall? The change of season made it suddenly chilly. Everyone take care of yourselves! Days like this call for gukbap to warm you up from the inside. My husband, me, and even our baby love gukbap, so off went the gukbap family again today.

The parking lot has plenty of space, so whether you're eating solo, coming from work, or with the family, there's no need to worry about parking. Baby chairs are available too!

What our family of three ordered and the prices

The menu is varied, perfect for a family visit. Other diners seemed to order a lot of beef haejangguk, mulhoe, and tonkatsu, and after some thought, since our child has loved pork gukbap since young — probably because mom and dad love it too — we went with the classics.

We ordered seonji haejangguk (blood sausage hangover soup) at ₩9,000, hanchi mulhoe (squid cold raw fish soup) at ₩15,000, and sagol gomtang (bone soup) at ₩11,000 ♡

Self-serve bar and basic table setting

At the in-store self-serve bar, you can freely add banchan like peppers, garlic, and kimchi that they've prepared, which is great for adjusting the meal to your own taste.

While we were at the self-serve bar, the basic table setting was already laid out. The owner even thoughtfully gave us free yogurt as a finishing touch — cheers, everyone!

They run various events too, so of course customers keep coming back haha

How was the hanchi mulhoe?

The dishes came out piping hot. Let's dig in haha

Cool ice cubes bobbing in a tangy-sweet cold broth, fresh squid toppings, and they use Jeju-grown tot (sea mustard), miyeok (seaweed), and hanchi (squid) — where else could you find that, hahaha! Loaded with all kinds of vegetables and generously drizzled with fragrant sesame oil. When it's hot out, forget naengmyeon, mulhoe is the best!!!!!!

Besides hanchi, they also have yukhoe mulhoe (raw beef version), so definitely try one of the mulhoe options during summer season ♥️

Seonji gukbap and hanwoo sagol gomtang

I've eaten seonji soup since I was little, so whenever the weather turns chilly, I suddenly crave it. The seonji was fresh and the broth had just the right amount of spicy, clean flavor. Besides seonji, a lot of people were also ordering the beef haejangguk.

It's loaded with green onion, bean sprouts, and glass noodles, and they give you garlic on the side — adding it in takes away the spiciness and doubles the savory flavor, like magic. My husband gave it a thumbs up as the best seonji soup he's ever had haha

The hanwoo sagol gomtang was generously packed with meat, along with egg garnish, mushrooms, jujube, and glass noodles, making it more filling than other places. The glass-noodle fanatics in our family devoured it in no time ♡

They also have kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup), great as a drinking snack or hangover cure. It's a flavor all the dads would love.

How was it eating with a child?

The gomtang wasn't too strong-flavored for our child to eat, which was perfect, and the owner was very sweet to our baby too. Besides gomtang, there's Jeju jumbo sirloin tonkatsu and mandu (dumplings) that kids can eat, so pick whatever catches your eye~~~~~~~~~~ I think I'll keep craving the seonji soup, and since these hearty menu items are also available for takeout, I'll have to bring some home whenever the craving hits haha

There was a dol hareubang (Jeju stone grandfather statue) out front, and our child wanted to hug it on the way out. We came for a meal but it felt like we'd visited Jeju Island. Looking at the photo again makes me want to go to Jeju so badly. Our whole family had a hearty, satisfying meal today.
