Yeongtong sushi before the noon rush at 11:30am: Teukbyeolhan Chobap

In short

Teukbyeolhan Chobap is a conveyor-belt sushi restaurant on Cheongmyeong-nam-ro in Yeongtong, Suwon. Arriving around 11:30am on a weekday after morning work nearby, the writer picked salmon and other plates straight off the rail and watched the chefs build each piece in the open kitchen, with friendly service throughout. A wait forms once noon hits, so Teukbyeolhan Chobap is best timed just before the lunch peak.

Finishing up work in Yeongtong right around lunchtime, I was seriously hungry.

Arrival at Teukbyeolhan Chobap in Yeongtong

I'm pretty into sushi in general, so while searching for a good Yeongtong sushi spot I came across Teukbyeolhan Chobap (특별한초밥), which people said had great value for money, and decided to check it out.

I especially love the vibe you only get at conveyor-belt sushi places.

Watching the chefs make sushi right in front of you, then seeing the finished pieces travel along the rail — it's fun, which is why I end up at conveyor-belt sushi restaurants fairly often.

This time I'd gone to a securities branch in Yeongtong for some business, and the wait there ran longer than expected. By the time I was done it was exactly lunchtime. Hungry and craving good sushi, I looked around nearby and ended up here.

Teukbyeolhan Chobap in Yeongtong: what time should you go?

I visited Teukbyeolhan Chobap around 11:30am, and at that hour I could sit down right away with no wait.

Quiet seating at 11:30am before the lunch rush

It was pretty relaxed getting in at that point, but once I started eating and it hit noon, customers started piling in and a wait began forming. Definitely better to show up a bit early during lunch hours.

The open kitchen at Teukbyeolhan Chobap is fun to watch

What I liked most about Teukbyeolhan Chobap was, again, that classic conveyor-belt sushi atmosphere. The chefs make the sushi right there in an open space, and watching them lay the sashimi on and shape each piece in front of you made even the waiting part fun.

The rail kept getting restocked too, so it was fun picking out whatever I felt like eating. Above all, the staff were really kind.

Even though it was my first time there, they attended to every little detail, which made the whole meal feel genuinely pleasant. It felt less like just a cheap sushi place and more like they were actually hosting you — that stuck with me.

Plenty of variety at Teukbyeolhan Chobap without a big bill

I love conveyor-belt sushi places, but sometimes as the plates stack up you start worrying about the total, you know?

But at Teukbyeolhan Chobap the vibe made it easy to try a bunch of different kinds without stressing. Most importantly, the taste and freshness held up well relative to the price, making it a great lunch option.

Grabbing freshly made sushi right off the rail really does have a fun quality unique to conveyor-belt sushi spots.

Why sushi at Teukbyeolhan Chobap hits better at lunch

Since I came straight from work that day, I was hungrier than usual.

So I kept grabbing whatever sushi caught my eye, and before I knew it the plates were stacking up haha. Sushi really lives and dies by the balance between the rice and the fish, and this didn't feel like just cheap sushi — the taste and freshness were both there, which was satisfying.

I especially care about the texture and freshness of the fish when I eat sushi, and everything here felt clean and enjoyable overall. Watching the sushi get made right in front of me also gave me a lot of confidence in the food.

Waits start after noon in Yeongtong, so go early

The thing I noticed most was how quickly customers filled in once lunchtime hit. Around 11:30am it was fairly relaxed, but past noon, waiting customers started to appear.

Recent reviews also describe this place as having quick table turnover and drawing a lot of lunch and dinner crowds, so if you want to eat comfortably, it's worth visiting just before the lunch peak. If you're like me, finishing up work in Yeongtong and looking for somewhere to eat, going a bit early is a good strategy.
