I've been craving raw sweet shrimp sashimi lately, so I went to Susan Jang Suwon Yeongtong Branch near Yeongtong Station. They have a wide range of seasonal seafood and sashimi, but that day we just ordered what we really wanted: raw sweet shrimp sashimi and uni. The shrimp sashimi was especially fresh — it came out already prepped but was still moving on the table, haha. If you love fresh seafood, this is a Yeongtong Station spot worth remembering.

Interior atmosphere and seating

Inside, it really feels like a seafood-focused izakaya. There's a slight Japanese vibe, and the wood-paneled ceiling gives it a distinctive look.

There were seats for two as well as larger group tables. We sat down and ordered right away what we wanted to eat.
The menu

Susan Jang has everything from sashimi to seasonal seafood, grilled dishes, and sides. That day we ordered just two things: raw sweet shrimp sashimi and uni. Rather than ordering a bunch of random stuff, we picked exactly what we were craving.
Drinks and the complimentary flounder fritter

For drinks we ordered a non-alcoholic highball and a zero-alcohol beer. Both came with plenty of ice, perfect for the hot weather.
The first thing to arrive was a flounder fritter, which we hadn't ordered, so we were a bit surprised, haha. Turns out it's a complimentary side dish at Susan Jang Suwon Yeongtong Branch.
Even as a free side, it was seasoned well and fried crispy — good quality. It felt like more effort than places that just hand you a bag of crackers, and it made us look forward to the main dishes even more.

The raw sweet shrimp sashimi and uni we ordered aren't dishes that take long to prepare, so they came out quickly, freshly prepped. The prep was clean and the plating was pretty, making the whole spread feel special.

Raw sweet shrimp sashimi, fresh enough to move on the table
First, the raw sweet shrimp sashimi we'd been looking forward to. It came out already prepped and beautifully plated, but even after landing on the table, the shrimp kept moving. That's when it really hit me how fresh it was, haha.

Taking a bite, the raw shrimp had that signature springy texture, and the sweetness came through more the more I chewed. Raw shrimp sashimi is a dish where any drop in freshness shows immediately in the taste, but here it was clean with no fishy edge at all, so I kept reaching for more. If you're after seasonal seafood near Yeongtong Station, this is worth trying whenever raw shrimp is in season.
Turning leftover shrimp heads into a fritter
If you cut off the leftover shrimp heads yourself and hand them over, they'll turn them into a shrimp head fritter for an extra ₩3,000. We didn't order this ourselves that day, but if you love a crispy shrimp head snack, it might be worth adding as a final round.

The uni was nutty with no fishy taste
Alongside the shrimp sashimi, we also ordered uni. Freshness really matters with uni too — get a bad one and the distinct fishy taste can make it hard to enjoy. But the uni here had almost no fishy taste at all, coming through soft and nutty instead.

The texture melted smoothly in the mouth, and switching between the shrimp sashimi and the uni, each had its own distinct charm. If you already like uni, this one should satisfy you.
In summary
Visiting Susan Jang Suwon Yeongtong Branch this time for raw sweet shrimp sashimi and uni, what stuck with me most was definitely the freshness of the shrimp sashimi. Seeing it move even after being prepped told me it was fresh before I even took a bite, and eating it confirmed that — springy and sweet. The uni was also nutty without any off-putting fishiness, so I was glad we ordered it too.
Next time I want to save the shrimp heads and try the fritter too, haha. If you're near Yeongtong Station craving sashimi or seasonal seafood and looking for a good spot around Yeongtong Station, give Susan Jang Suwon Yeongtong Branch a try.
