Seafood restaurant, Seogwipo: hairtail stew at Jejurowoon
In short
Jejurowoon Cheonghaewon Seongsan Ilchulbong Branch is a seafood restaurant in Sinyang Village near Seogwipo, Jeju. We had the A set with braised hairtail, grilled tilefish, seafood stew, soy-marinated crab, and rice; I liked the mild braising sauce and clean seafood broth.

Where did I have braised hairtail during my Seongsan trip?
On this trip to Jeju, I visited Jejurowoon Cheonghaewon Seongsan Ilchulbong Branch (제주로운청해원 성산일출봉점) in Sinyang Village near Sinyang Seopjikoji Beach. It was in a relatively quiet location, but customers continued to arrive even well after weekday dinner hours. I was struck to see that it was visited not only by tourists but also by local residents.

Is it easy to include in a travel route, with parking available?
It was close to Seongsan Ilchulbong, Seopjikoji, and Aqua Planet Jeju, so it was easy to include in a travel route. There were parking spaces on the road in front of the building and behind it, and because there was no break time during my visit, it was convenient to fit a meal into our schedule.
The yellow sign with dark blue lettering stood out even from a distance. The sign also said that the restaurant has been operating since 1998.

What is the interior like for families or groups?
The interior was more spacious and tidy than I expected. The tables were comfortably spaced, so it looked suitable for family meals or group dining. Overall, it had a bright, orderly atmosphere.

What comes with the braised hairtail A set?
We chose the A set, which came with braised hairtail, grilled tilefish, glutinous pot rice, soy-marinated crab, and seafood stew. It let us try several Jeju fish dishes in one meal, and I felt the price was reasonable.

The soy-marinated crab had a clean taste, and the accompanying side dishes were neat and tasty.

How were the sauce and ingredients in the braised hairtail?
We let the braised hairtail simmer on a burner at the table as we ate. Rather than being dominated by a strong seasoning, it was cleanly braised and easy to eat. There was a generous amount of domestic hairtail and radish, and I also enjoyed mixing the braising broth into freshly cooked rice.

How were the seafood stew and grilled tilefish?
The seafood stew had a mild broth that brought out the natural flavors of the seafood. It had a refreshing taste from seafood such as blue crab and mussels, and it was not overly seasoned, so it was easy to eat.

The tilefish was grilled to a golden color, bringing out its mild flavor. My husband, who likes fish, picked the meat from the bones and ordered a bottle of beer to have with the grilled tilefish.

How did I finish the glutinous pot rice?
I also liked the freshly cooked glutinous pot rice. I first served myself some rice, then poured water into the pot and left it until the end of the meal, when I refreshed my palate with sungnyung (scorched-rice tea). It was a meal of braised hairtail, grilled fish, and soup dishes, finished with sungnyung.
