Daegu café for waffles and bingsu: Hands Coffee Dongchon Resort
In short
Hands Coffee Dongchon Resort Branch is a multi-floor café in Dong-gu, Daegu, where I visited with my children for a Häagen-Dazs ice cream waffle, old-fashioned bingsu, and a whipped-cream cappuccino. The waffle was crisp and chewy, and I especially liked the nutty bingsu, though the café was quite busy that weekend.

I recently returned to Hands Coffee Dongchon Resort Branch (핸즈커피 동촌유원지점) with my children after a long time. I used to come here often because I liked the waffles, so it was nice to find the familiar menu and atmosphere again.

Are there good seats for visiting with children?
Hands Coffee Dongchon Resort Branch is a large café spanning the second through fourth floors. Light came in through the large windows, so it did not feel cramped, and each floor had a slightly different atmosphere.

There is also floor seating on the fourth floor, which looked suitable for sitting with young children. However, it was quite busy on the weekend I visited, so I could not photograph every part of the space.

The interior had a slightly antique, stately feel. I liked that atmosphere, and the spacious setting was also nice for sitting and talking for a long time.

Do they serve brunch, and what did we order?
I noticed that the brunch menu had become more varied than before. The set options also looked good, and I would like to come back for brunch next time. This time, I chose desserts and coffee that my children and I enjoy.

We ordered a Häagen-Dazs ice cream waffle, old-fashioned bingsu (shaved ice dessert), and a whipped-cream cappuccino.

What does the Häagen-Dazs ice cream waffle taste like?
My usual favorite menu item is the green tea waffle. That day, though, I ordered the Häagen-Dazs ice cream waffle with my children's preferences in mind.

The waffle was crisp on the outside and chewy inside. Paired with Häagen-Dazs ice cream, it was as familiarly delicious as I remembered. At the time of my visit, there were four ice cream flavors to choose from.
How was the old-fashioned bingsu different from milk-ice bingsu?
The menu item I unexpectedly liked that day was the old-fashioned bingsu. Unlike the smooth bingsu made with milk ice, it was a traditional-style shaved-ice dessert topped with red beans and plenty of nuts.

I especially liked the nuts. The nuttiness of the almonds and buttery flavor reminded me of the Hands cookies I used to enjoy. Each bite brought out a savory aroma, and I also liked that it was not overly sweet.

If you prefer bingsu made with milk ice, you may feel differently about it. For me, the combination of red beans and savory nuts worked well.
How was the whipped-cream cappuccino with the waffle?

The whipped-cream cappuccino is something I order whenever I go to Hands Coffee. To me, it felt somewhere between a typical latte and a cream coffee. The soft cream had a light cinnamon aroma, making it sweet while still retaining the coffee flavor.

The coffee and desserts were generally pleasant, and it was a comfortable place to spend time with family or friends. For me, it is a place I would think of again on a day when I want to sit back over familiar waffles and coffee.
