Okonomiyaki right before last order, 3 dishes for two: Jojo Yeonnam
In short
Jojo Yeonnam Branch is an okonomiyaki and monjayaki restaurant on Donggyo-ro in Mapo, Seoul. Visiting right before last order with a friend, they ordered okonomiyaki, yakisoba, and yaki-bokkeumbap (fried rice) all at once, and every table has its own teppan griddle to keep the food hot. The spicy sauce cut through the richness, making Jojo Yeonnam a place worth returning to when craving Japanese food in Yeonnam-dong.

I was craving okonomiyaki so I went back to Jojo. I'd been a few times before and it was so good that I keep ending up back there haha. It's even better that they have several branches in Seoul! And the taste is exactly like what I had in Japan 🤤

Break time and the atmosphere inside
They have a break time on both weekdays and weekends, so check the hours before you go. We happened to visit right before last order, and maybe because of that, everyone else was already finishing up their meals. Other okonomiyaki places I've been to were cramped inside with mostly bar seating, which was a bit disappointing, but Jojo Yeonnam is spacious with plenty of tables facing each other 👍🏻

If you sit at the bar table by the kitchen, you can actually watch the cooking process, which seemed like a fun change of pace! There's also a teppan griddle built into every table, so a big plus is that you get to eat everything piping hot 💙

There's a cute mini spatula(?) and cutlery set at the table, and that piece of paper is for collecting stamps. You just write your nickname or name on it!

What we ordered for two
The menu wasn't limited to okonomiyaki — it also had monjayaki, which is trending on SNS right now, plus yakisoba and fried rice, so there was a lot of variety. If you want to try a bit of everything, I'd recommend the set menu! There were only two of us, but since we wanted to try a bunch of things, we ordered okonomiyaki, yakisoba, and fried rice :)

If you order a Coke, they thoughtfully give you a cup of ice too.

Since everything is made to order, it took about 5-10 minutes to come out! And wow, the presentation was so carefully done, it looked amazing 🤤 The portions were generous too, which made it even better. The soft-fried egg on top especially was such a nice touch 👏🏻

The spicy sauce cuts through the richness
There were three sauces — spicy sauce, mayonnaise, and a house special sauce — and since Japanese food tends to be a bit rich, pairing it with the spicy sauce was seriously a perfect match ❤️ It says it's quite spicy, but honestly it wasn't that spicy to me (and I'm pretty weak with spice, for the record).

Yaki-bokkeumbap (fried rice)
Ha..! Koreans really do run on rice, right?! I tried a bite of the yaki-bokkeumbap first, and it was packed with cabbage and meat, plus shrimp and squid too, so incredibly good ❤️ The seasoning was just right, and I remember enjoying every bite..💭

Yakisoba
As for the yakisoba, what can I say... Honestly, I've never found a great yakisoba place in Japan — they always tasted too salty to me haha. But Jojo Yeonnam's yakisoba has this sweetish flavor that's perfectly suited to Korean tastes 😎

Okonomiyaki
Finally, the main dish that got nothing but praise — the okonomiyaki was perfect too 🥹 Unlike other okonomiyaki, this one didn't have bonito flakes on top, but somehow that made it even more delicious? The cabbage inside was crunchy and full of texture, and dipping it in the spicy sauce made it even better (it really does cut through the richness of the sauce!). If you're looking for a good spot in Yeonnam-dong, I recommend Jojo :)
