In short
Dongam Tteokgalbi is a Korean restaurant on the 3rd floor of a building along Gijang Haean-ro (coastal road) in Gijang, Busan. On a weekend drive, the writer ordered the basic Dongam Tteokgalbi (₩15,000) and the Cheese Tteokgalbi Set (₩18,000), refilling the self-serve banchan bar of tteokbokki, egg steak, and namul several times, alongside brass tableware, sotbap (pot rice), and doenjang jjigae. A tteokgalbi place in Gijang, found on a drive from Ulsan
Today I went to Dongam Tteokgalbi, a lunch spot in Gijang, Busan >< The weather was so nice this weekend that I drove out to Gijang!!!
There are seriously so many delicious places in Gijang, but if you love Korean food — and meat!! — I found an amazing spot you absolutely cannot skip. It's 'Dongam Tteokgalbi'!! It's not too far from Ulsan either, so it's the perfect spot for a drive!!!
Even before walking in, the savory smell of tteokgalbi (grilled beef patty) drifting from the entrance made my stomach growl... I got to taste real tteokgalbi with juices spreading out moist and tender, and I couldn't wait to tell you all about it!!! From the banchan to the tteokgalbi itself, everything at Dongam Tteokgalbi is a hit — let me introduce it now!!

You can park comfortably on the building's 1st floor and head up!!
🪑 How spacious is the inside?
Once I stepped inside, the interior was way more spacious and open than I expected — so comfortable!!!

The whole place is decorated with a warm, upscale interior that made me feel at ease!! The tables were big and the seats were spaced far apart, so we could talk comfortably over the meal without worrying about people around us!!
The big open windows kept it from feeling stuffy at all, and every corner of the place looked spotlessly clean, which made me trust it even more!! There's plenty of room for group tables too, so it'd be great for family gatherings or friend meetups!! Thanks to the clean, comfortable interior, I felt good the whole meal!!
📋 Menu and prices

- Dongam Tteokgalbi ₩15,000
- Cheese Tteokgalbi Set ₩18,000
🥢 What's in the self-serve banchan bar?

The real hidden star of Dongam Tteokgalbi has to be the incredibly generous self-serve corner!! Before the main dish arrives, or halfway through the meal, you can freely go grab more banchan (side dishes) as you need!!! At the self-serve corner, each neat dish was piled high and hygienically with side dishes, and just looking at it made me feel full already, haha.

From tteokbokki (spicy rice cake) and stir-fried Vienna sausages that kids love, to stir-fried kimchi, warm tofu, and fried rice!! Great for bringing the whole extended family, from grandparents to kids~~

All kinds of namul (seasoned vegetables), kimchi, steamed egg, and more side dishes!! There were so many kinds, it was really varied!!

None of the banchan was too salty — they were all mild and clean-tasting, so I kept going back for more~~ A perfect match to eat alongside the tteokgalbi, so I refilled my plate several times!!

The self-serve banchan alone was so good and varied it could've been a meal on its own!!
Brass tableware, sotbap (pot rice), and doenjang jjigae
Another charm of Dongam Tteokgalbi is the neat basic table setting that comes out!! The banchan is served carefully in upscale brass bowls, and every one of them was seasoned just right and mild — perfect with rice!!

Along with the freshly made sotbap, still fragrant and warm, came a rich, savory doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) with deep, spicy-savory broth — I just cleaned out a whole bowl of rice without even noticing!!!

How was the basic Dongam Tteokgalbi?
Finally, the main dishes arrived — the basic Dongam Tteokgalbi and the cheese tteokgalbi!! The thick tteokgalbi was grilled a golden-brown, topped lightly with sliced scallions — the visual alone made my mouth water!!
I split it in half with my chopsticks, and warm steam came out along with sweet, savory juices flowing moist between the layers of meat — did you see that?

The moment the meat hit my mouth, there was zero dryness — it was so soft it practically melted~~

Made through a low-temperature aging process, this is authentic tteokgalbi, and I could taste a subtle smoky char plus the deep, natural flavor of the meat filling my whole mouth!!
Isn't the cheese tteokgalbi set too rich?
Next, the thick, golden tteokgalbi came out topped with a generous, almost waterfall-like pour of melted yellow cheddar cheese,

I took a big bite of cheese and meat together, and the rich, savory cheese blended fantastically with the juicy tteokgalbi!!

I was a little worried the cheese might make it too rich, but it wasn't heavy at all — the savoriness of the meat and the salty cheese were a perfect match!!!

Dipping it into the special soy sauce that came alongside gave a salty-sweet, umami-packed burst of flavor — pure heaven!! It's the kind of taste kids and grandparents alike can enjoy without any complaints!!
