In short

Gongjung Dodeok is a duck restaurant in Mapo, Seoul, a 5-minute walk from Exit 3 of Daeheung Station on Line 6, along the Gyeongui Line Forest Park toward Gongdeok Station. The meal ran from gonggamtang (duck gamjatang, a duck and potato stew) to a full platter of duck roast, duck jumulleok, minari (water dropwort) and potatoes, plus a minari pancake scattered with barley shrimp, and staff kept flipping the meat throughout. Portions at Gongjung Dodeok are so generous that there was no room left for the finishing fried rice.

How to get to Gongjung Dodeok, and its opening hours

Gongjung Dodeok is a duck restaurant at 1F, 28 Baekbeom-ro 20-gil, Mapo-gu, Seoul, about a 5-minute walk from Exit 3 of Daeheung Station (Line 6). It's open daily from 11:00 to 22:30, with last order at 21:30, and takes reservations through Catch Table and Naver Reservation.

A Daeheung Station favorite, this duck restaurant sits along the Gyeongui Line Forest trail heading from Daeheung toward Gongdeok Station.

Walking toward Gongdeok, it's on the right side.

A striking spot where a duck greets you from far away. The rubber duck is cute and has real presence.

The exterior has a bit of a folk-village vibe to it.

What is Gongjung Dodeok like inside?

The inside of Gongjung Dodeok also has that folk-village feel. Every table has its own burner and grill plate, which kept the indoor temperature really cool. A cool barbecue place in this summer heat is honestly the best.

The tables were also spaced out enough that neighboring conversations didn't overlap much. Sometimes tables that are too close mean you overhear things you'd rather not, but here we could keep chatting with our friend comfortably.

Apron storage space at Gongjung Dodeok

There's a spot for aprons on one side, and space under the chairs to store bags. Since it's a barbecue place with oil splatter, storing bags under the chairs was really nice — less smell soaking in, too.

Gongjung Dodeok's duck rules: maximize nourishment, don't rush, wait, don't burn it~~ I read this while waiting for our order after sitting down.

Table set with small plates and banchan

The banchan (side dishes) were exactly right for duck — not too much, not too little. Since a soup came out, we also ordered a bowl of rice. Best to portion out what you'll eat onto your small plate — the meat portions are so big that one bowl of rice per person wasn't really feasible.

How does the duck potato stew (gonggamtang) taste?

The first thing to arrive at Gongjung Dodeok was the duck gamjatang, named gonggamtang. You put it on the burner and simmer it until hot.

Since it uses raw duck meat, it needs a good, thorough simmer. It's like gamjatang (spicy pork-bone soup) but with duck instead of pork. Once simmered, the perilla leaf aroma melds in with just the right spiciness and the nutty ground perilla seeds — genuinely restorative. This is a dish you have to eat with rice!

The duck roast and jumulleok platter with minari

Next came the mild duck roast, minari, deeply seasoned duck jumulleok (spicy stir-fried duck), and potatoes.

A full table set entirely with duck. Just looking at it made me feel healthier!! This is where I got my last dose of late-summer nourishment.

Staff came by periodically to flip the duck meat. We got caught up chatting and missed our turn to flip it ourselves, but the staff kept an eye on things and made sure everything cooked evenly, which made for an easy meal.

The oil dripping down from the duck roast at the top cooks the minari, and the sauce and oil from the jumulleok cook the potatoes below — wow, the layout and arrangement here were really well thought out!!

Was the barley shrimp minari pancake worth ordering?

Another highlight at Gongjung Dodeok is the barley shrimp minari pancake. The pancake itself is huge, and it's absolutely packed with barley shrimp inside. Shrimp kept falling out with every bite.

The fragrant minari and the savory umami of the shrimp went really well together. The pancake also used less batter than usual, which suited my taste even more — you could really taste the ingredients themselves!!

How big are the portions at Gongjung Dodeok?

It's genuinely a huge table, and it was nearly full. The portions were so generous it was hard to finish everything. As the finishing touch, you're supposed to fry rice at the end, but my stomach just wouldn't allow it, so I couldn't have the fried rice — such a shame, since the jumulleok sauce was so good!!!!

To finish, the mild duck roast was crisped up just right, perfect with the green onion kimchi.

Who should visit Gongjung Dodeok?

As the season starts to cool down a bit, this is a place I'd recommend if you're looking for outdoor seating along the Gyeongui Line Forest trail! The space has a somewhat refined folk-village feel, and duck is great for restoring energy after a hard summer.

If you're after a good barbecue spot near Gongdeok or Daeheung, this is a place where you can really nourish yourself properly. The duck jumulleok was so good that next time I'm definitely getting the fried rice :) If you're going as a group, I'd recommend booking ahead. It also seems like a good spot for office workers nearby to have a company dinner!
