In short

Gongjung Dodeok is a duck restaurant in Mapo, Seoul, with outdoor tables right in front of the Gyeongui Line Forest Park near Daeheung Station. The two-person half-and-half set (₩69,000) brought duck roast, spicy duck jeongol-style stir-fry with minari (water dropwort), duck potato soup, plus a barley shrimp minari pancake and finishing fried rice. It's a great spot for a cool evening al fresco meal with minari-loaded spicy duck and a drink.

Evenings have gotten pleasantly cool lately — perfect weather for good food and a drink outdoors 🌿🍺 My boyfriend and I were walking along the Gyeongui Line Forest Park when we spotted an atmospheric outdoor dining spot right on the trail, so we went in right away haha. It's Gongjung Dodeok, a duck restaurant located right between Daeheung Station and Gongdeok Station 🦆💚

Gongjung Dodeok has outdoor tables facing the Gyeongui Line Forest Park. Eating spicy minari duck stir-fry right next to a green forest trail… honestly the atmosphere alone is half the meal lol 🌳✨

The outdoor dining atmosphere right by Gyeongui Line Forest Park

Gongjung Dodeok has both outdoor tables and indoor seating.

The indoors was clean too, with a warm wood-toned vibe, but on a cool day like this, outdoor seating just can't be beat lol 🍻 With the Gyeongui Line Forest Park spread right out front, we could enjoy a relaxed meal surrounded by green scenery even in the middle of the city.

Once the sun sets and the lights come on, the mood turns even more romantic — totally recommend it as a date spot 💚✨

What to know before taking an outdoor seat

Just note that outdoor seats can't be reserved separately and are given out on a first-come basis. Also, since open flames aren't allowed outside, dishes come pre-cooked from the kitchen, and for duck you can only order the stir-fry set or stir-fry alone. If you want an outdoor table at this Gyeongui Line Forest Park spot, it's best to arrive a bit early 🌿

What we ordered

  • Gongjung half-and-half set for two ₩69,000
  • Barley shrimp minari pancake ₩22,000
  • Added fried rice

The half-and-half set lets you enjoy seasoned duck stir-fry and duck roast side by side, plus fresh minari (water dropwort) and a hot duck potato soup on the side. For us — wanting both the roast and the spicy stir-fry — this was the perfect choice…! ദ്ദി˶˙ᵕ˙˶ )💕

It comes out on a big hot plate piled high with duck, minari, potatoes, and rice cakes — hearty just from the first look!

Clean, savory duck roast

We started with the plain duck roast. The meat wasn't tough or gamey at all — tender, with a savory juiciness 🤍

Cooking it together with onion and green onion added a sweetness that made it even better. The minari soaks up the fragrant duck fat as it cooks, turning moist and aromatic. Piled high on top of the plain duck roast, it kept going down without feeling greasy at all!

Staff came by periodically to flip the duck for us and let us know when it was ready to eat, so we could enjoy it without worrying about burning it 👍🏻✨

Spicy seasoned duck stir-fry

The duck stir-fry, coated in a mouthwatering red sauce, was exactly my thing 🔥

The sauce was spicy-sweet with deep savory notes — not overwhelmingly hot, more like a flavor that calls for both rice and soju at once lol. The meat was well seasoned, and with rice cakes and potatoes mixed in, it was fun picking through for different bites.

The soft, chewy rice cakes soaked in spicy sauce were so good I wanted to order more of just those 🤤 And the minari is added generously too.

As the fragrant minari cooks, it freshens up the rich spicy stir-fry — the combination of the two was so good 💚

Even better wrapped in perilla leaves

The stir-fry is great on its own, but it's even better wrapped in a perilla leaf with pickled radish, rice, and duck!

The crisp, tangy pickled radish plus fragrant perilla leaf, minari, and spicy duck exploded together in the best way…💥💕 This, I think, is the charm of outdoor dining at Gyeongui Line Forest Park 🍺🌿

Rich, spicy duck potato soup

The half-and-half set also comes with a hot duck potato soup. I thought it was just a meat set, but getting a full stone pot of soup too made the meal feel really substantial!

The broth had a faint perilla seed aroma and a spicy, rich style like yukgaejang (spicy beef soup). Taking a hot sip between bites of duck cleared away the grease perfectly ✨

There was also boneless duck meat inside the soup, so it was fun fishing out the pieces. I'd planned to save room for the fried rice, but one sip of the broth made me want a bowl of rice with it immediately lol 🍚🔥

Insanely crispy barley shrimp minari pancake

Next, the barley shrimp minari pancake we ordered on the side!

The moment it arrived, filling the whole large plate, I was surprised — it looked totally different from the typical minari pancake I had in mind 😮💚 Instead of a thick flour-batter pancake, it kept the minari's shape intact, almost fried crisp.

Paired with makgeolli or beer outdoors, this would be the perfect side dish…🍶🍺

Finishing with fried rice

You know there's always room for fried rice no matter how full you are, right? Lol. They stir-fried the leftover duck stir-fry, minari, and seaweed flakes into fluffy fried rice right on the hot plate. The spicy seasoning coated every grain of rice, with bits of duck and minari mixed in — the perfect finishing dish 🥹💕

The slightly crisped bits stuck to the pan were so nutty and crunchy I couldn't stop scraping them off! Finishing off the fried rice too made the whole meal feel truly nourishing 🦆💪🏻
