Ocean-view seafood jjamppong and peanut pizza on Udo Island: Seomsonai

In short

Seomsonai is a jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup) and pizza restaurant right on Hagosudong Beach on Udo Island, Jeju. The writer ordered the ujjam (red seafood jjamppong) loaded with abalone, mussels, shrimp, squid, hijiki and gulfweed, paired with the peanut-topped soseom pizza, and found the smoky, spicy broth and sweet-savory pizza a surprisingly perfect match. A bowl of jjamppong with a sea view is the writer's idea of the ultimate Udo trip moment.

Udo's jjamppong spot, Seomsonai — seafood jjamppong and soseom pizza

Seafood jjamppong and soseom pizza table setting at Seomsonai on Udo

It was the day I was finally heading into Udo, the part of my Jeju trip I'd been looking forward to most. I suddenly remembered eating jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup) here a few years back, and once again I found myself craving jjamppong on Udo. Searching around, I found Seomsonai (섬소나이).

Here's my review after devouring a smoky seafood jjamppong and pizza together — it was so good.

Seomsonai's location and how to get there

  • 📍 Address: 814 Udohaean-gil, Udo-myeon, Jeju-si, Jeju-do
  • ⏰ Hours: 10:00 – 17:00 (last order 16:30, closed on days when ferries don't run)
  • 🅿️ Parking: Public parking lot in front of the restaurant

You can reach Seomsonai by getting off at the Hagosudong Beach bus stop. We rode an electric scooter, and it took about 10 minutes from Hauhmokdong Port. We parked the scooter right in front and went in.

The oceanfront exterior and cozy interior

Hagosudong Beach stretches out like paradise right in front, and Seomsonai sits right there facing it.

Stepping inside, I found a cozy space decorated with cute, sentimental little props.

It had a relaxed vibe that really suited the mood of an island like Udo.

Window-side table facing the sea inside Seomsonai

There was a big window facing the sea with tables set right in front of it, so we grabbed a seat as soon as we walked in haha.

I loved being able to eat while looking at the sea, in that laid-back atmosphere you can only feel on Udo. We visited on a weekday and got seated right away, but when there's a wait, you'll need to join the waitlist through Catch Table.

Seomsonai's menu and prices

Seomsonai is a place where you can enjoy Udo-style jjamppong full of sea flavor alongside pizza. You can pick the jjamppong that suits your taste — there are three types: ujjam (red jjamppong), baekjjam (cream jjamppong), and ttaengjjam (clear jjamppong). There are two pizzas: soseom pizza and truffle pizza.

We ordered the set menu so we could try both — the ujjam-soseom set plus a drink for ₩33,000. By the way, if you leave a Naver receipt review, you get a free can of drink, so make sure to do that!

How was the ujjam (red jjamppong) and soseom pizza?

The jjamppong and pizza arrived together⭐️

Ujjam red jjamppong topped with abalone and shrimp
Top of the seafood jjamppong with hijiki and gulfweed

The ujjam had abalone, mussels, shrimp, and squid piled on top of the broth, along with hijiki and gulfweed and other very Jeju ingredients. Look at how generous the seafood is, ugh.

The abalone was properly tender, the shrimp was plump, and the squid and mussels were so fresh.

Dark-colored noodles made with hijiki-infused dough

Apparently the noodles are made with dough that has hijiki mixed in, which gives them a slightly darker color — total proper seafood-jjamppong energy.

Spicy broth of the jjamppong at basic spice level

I chose the basic spice level for the broth, and it was just the right amount of spicy, with amazing umami from the seafood and a really strong smoky char flavor.

As you eat, you keep biting into crunchy bits of hijiki and gulfweed, and you really get hit with that ocean scent — it was so special.

Soseom pizza topped with Udo peanuts and pineapple

The soseom pizza was totally my style visually too🍕 — a thin crust topped with pineapple, tomato, and Udo peanuts, all covered in a generous dusting of cheese powder!

One bite in, the distinctive savory flavor of Udo peanuts and the savoriness of the cheese blended together so well. The pineapple and tomato added a nice tanginess too — so good, honestly a flavor any Korean would love.

The garlic sauce that came with it was the kicker. It's such a perfect match with the soseom pizza that dipping it in, you could eat pizza endlessly.

And honestly, the jjamppong and pizza combo works surprisingly well together. Spicy jjamppong with sweet, savory pizza — is there anything better? I also love cream jjamppong, so next time I come to Udo, I'm definitely trying the baekjjam!

Final thoughts on Seomsonai

Eating jjamppong with that Udo atmosphere really did make the jjamppong feel extra special. Just being able to eat while looking out at the clear blue sea already put me in full vacation mode. The seafood in the jjamppong tasted genuinely fresh, and the fusion-style pairing with the pizza was so much my thing.

I totally understood why this is a local favorite. It's close to Hauhmokdong Port too, so having a bowl of jjamppong and then riding around Udo made me so happy.

If Marado is about jjajangmyeon, isn't Udo about jjamppong? 😁
