Daehangno western restaurant with photo-perfect lighting: Omil Hyehwa

Today I visited Omil Hyehwa Daehangno, a pasta spot people keep raving about in Hyehwa. It was seriously so good I finished everything, so let's get right into the review.

Where is Omil Hyehwa Daehangno?

Omil Hyehwa Daehangno is located near Exit 4 of Hyehwa Station. Since it's right on Daehangno, it seemed like a great spot for a date, and also a good place to eat with family and kids.

Omil's menu and what comes in the Oh!set

Here's the menu. Alongside their signature rubber duck omurice, gochujang butter pasta, and hot-plate cheese katsu, they had a wide range of western dishes — gnocchi, steak, and risotto too. And for sides, soba maki and corn fritters!

I ordered the Oh! set. It comes with two mains, one side, and two drinks, and I chose rubber duck omurice / gochujang butter pasta / corn fritters / Coke / Pepsi Zero.

Today's order was the Oh! set (two mains, one side, two drinks) — rubber duck omurice, gochujang butter pasta, corn fritters, Coke, Pepsi Zero.

You could take as many pickles as you wanted from the self-serve bar. Western food can get heavy, so being able to grab pickles freely was really nice!

Gochujang butter pasta at Omil

Gochujang butter pasta! The staff explained you should mix the butter on top thoroughly with the noodles. The slightly spicy, salty flavor of gochujang (Korean chili paste) combined with the rich, smooth butter gave it a charm totally different from a typical tomato or cream pasta. It felt fresh pairing a familiar Korean ingredient with pasta, and the spiciness kept it from feeling too rich. But as someone who can't handle spice well, it was a little hot for me!

Rubber duck omurice, the set's signature plate

This is the dish I wanted to try before I even got to Omil. It's so cute-looking you can't not take photos of it... The omurice is wrapped in yellow egg with quail eggs shaped like rubber ducks sitting on top — so adorable! The egg was soft and moist, so eating it together with the rice gave the best texture. Inside was salmon fried rice, and the combination of the sauce with the egg fried rice was amazing. I'd want to order this dish again on my next visit!

Corn fritters, the side dish

The corn fritters I ordered as a side. The sweet flavor of the corn and the crispy fried texture went so well together. I thought it would just be loose corn kernels, but they actually gave us plastic gloves to wear and pick it apart. Eating it with the sauce they provided was a perfect match!

And this place is a photo hotspot. I got the best shot in Hyehwa here — even better than I ever got at a café!!! The lighting and brightness were amazing. Perfect for a date.

Is Omil Hyehwa Daehangno worth a visit?

Omil was memorable not just for the taste but for its cute visuals and unusual menu combinations! The rubber duck omurice in particular — cute to look at, great for photos, and delicious too — I highly recommend it. The overall menu lineup isn't something you see everywhere, so it's a great spot when you want to try something a bit different from usual, and it's a good pick for a date or hanging out with friends too.
