Changwon Korean restaurant, ssambap & 12+ sides: Masan Ssamjangjip

In short

Masan Ssamjangjip is a Korean restaurant on Haean-daero opposite Haeanyang Nuri Park in Changwon, Gyeongnam. We ordered ssambap for two and a small braised beef rib dish, then finished with fruit from the self-service bar. Verdict: a comforting, generous home-style Korean meal.

I stopped by after exercising near Haeanyang Nuri Park and looking for a good place to eat around Daetgeori. It had been a while since I'd had a hearty Korean meal in Masan, and I came here after hearing that you can enjoy ssambap (rice wrapped in leafy greens) along with a variety of side dishes and Korean dishes here 🤗

Masan Ssamjangjip opposite Haeanyang Nuri Park, with easy parking

Masan Ssamjangjip is located along Masan's coastal road, making it easy to reach from Daetgeori and Haeun-dong. Since it is right across from Haeanyang Nuri Park, it is also nicely accessible for a stroll after your meal.

Parking is inevitably one of the biggest concerns when heading out for a meal, right? When visiting Masan Ssamjangjip, you can use the Haeanyang Nuri Park parking lot directly opposite! It is quite spacious too, so there was no parking stress :)

Information on using the Haeanyang Nuri Park parking lot

I arrived at Masan Ssamjangjip while walking along Haean-daero. Its exterior was unadorned and rather modest, and its comfortable, welcoming feel made it easy to visit without any fuss.

The neat, tidy sign also made it easy to spot at a glance!

The interior was more spacious than I expected, and it felt clean and well kept throughout. There were mainly regular table seats for a relaxed meal, plus separate room-style spaces farther inside, so it seemed perfectly suited to a family meal out or a gathering with friends!

Self-service desserts and Hangang ramyeon while you wait

There was a self-service bar on one side. It was set up as a spot for dessert after your meal, with songpyeon (half-moon rice cakes), oranges, grapes, and other fruit, which were great for a refreshing finish.

Best of all, you can make Hangang ramyeon—instant noodles cooked in a self-service machine—so it seemed ideal for a bowl if you got hungry while waiting. There were lots of noodle varieties too, so choosing one was part of the fun~

Ssambap for two and a small braised beef rib dish

Masan Ssamjangjip's menu was simple and tidy, centered on Ssamjangjip ssambap and braised beef ribs. They say truly great local places compete with just one or two dishes, right? :) The two of us ordered Ssamjangjip ssambap for two, plus a small braised beef rib dish.

Side dishes fit for a king's table

Honestly, I was so surprised by the number of side dishes. There was a spread fit for a king's royal table, with so many different things to try: tofu kimchi, seasoned lotus root, seasoned eggplant, stir-fried seaweed stems, seasoned acorn jelly, and kimchi pancakes. Oh my... what on earth was missing??

There was also japchae (stir-fried glass noodles), tteokgalbi (grilled minced meat patties), soy-braised quail eggs, and more. Everything came out neatly and cleanly, which made it all the nicer to eat :-)

There was a wait when we visited, so we had a little time on our hands. That is when we made Hangang ramyeon!!

We made mild spicy Jin Ramen, and of course, the appeal of Hangang ramyeon is cooking it yourself, right? 🍜 Since it was easy to make at the self-service corner, it was great for taking the edge off our hunger!

Fresh wrap vegetables and sweet-savory braised ribs

Ssambap review

The ssambap came with plenty of fresh wrap vegetables. You can add braised ribs or spicy stir-fried pork depending on your preference, top it with various vegetables, and make your own combination with ssamjang (seasoned soybean paste), which I really enjoyed.

Perhaps because there were so many different side dishes, it felt like having a warm home-cooked meal for the first time in a while :) If you are craving a filling, warm home-style meal, I absolutely recommend Masan Ssamjangjip~

Braised rib review 🍖

The braised ribs were ready not long after we ordered.

The meat came away easily from the bones, so there was no real trouble pulling it off and it was easy to eat, which made me even happier with it.

The sweet-savory sauce had soaked evenly into the ribs and had a lovely depth of flavor, so with rice, it was a total rice thief.

A soybean paste stew came too, and perhaps because of the blue crab, it was clean-tasting and pleasantly spicy. It paired so well with the meat~ We had a truly filling meal, then wrapped things up neatly with fruit dessert from the self-service bar :)

The finish to a Korean meal on Masan's Haean-daero

If you want a satisfying Korean meal along Masan's Haean-daero, I recommend Masan Ssamjangjip :) With more than 12 side dishes and even self-service Hangang ramyeon, it was a filling, neatly prepared Korean spread.
