Solo dining at Thanon55, a Thai restaurant in Eojin-dong, Sejong
In short
Thanon55 is a Thai restaurant on the first floor of the Best Western Plus Hotel in Eojin-dong, Sejong. Dining alone, I ordered the gamjatang rice noodle soup (pork-bone soup with rice noodles) that Thanon55 says you can only get here, and the meat slid straight off the bone in a broth that was not heavy on spice, in a bowl big enough for one adult. For a different kind of rice noodle soup in Sejong, Thanon55 is worth one visit.

Where is Thanon55 in Eojin-dong, Sejong?
Thanon55 is a Thai restaurant on the first floor of the Best Western Plus Hotel in Eojin-dong, Sejong. I usually love rice noodle soup, so while hunting for something new I visited Thanon55, known as a local favorite in Eojin-dong, Sejong.
Being on the first floor of the Best Western Plus Hotel made it easy to find, and the moment I stepped in, the interior gave off real Thai local vibes. The exotic atmosphere honestly made me feel like I was on a trip, and the tables were spaced generously, making for a comfortable meal. Thanon55 serves the usual range of Thai dishes, but I heard the pork-bone rice noodle soup — a dish you can only get here — was the signature item, so I ordered it without hesitation. As someone who loves both gamjatang (pork-bone stew) and rice noodle soup, this unusual combination had me even more curious why so many people recommend it as the signature dish. It's genuinely known as the restaurant's most popular menu item.

Inside Thanon55: table spacing and the self-serve corner
Thanon55's dining room, right down to the open kitchen and the self-serve side dish corner, was well kept. The whole space felt clean and pleasant from the moment I walked in.
Tables and chairs were tidy, and the tableware and small plates were hygienically prepared, so I could enjoy my meal without worry. The open kitchen was also well organized, and staff were noticeably tidying up tables throughout. The self-serve corner was kept clean too, so grabbing side dishes felt easy, and overall the place gave a strong impression of good hygiene management.

How does the gamjatang rice noodle soup taste?
Thanon55's pork-bone rice noodle soup arrived with big bones, meat and plenty of noodles all in one bowl. The moment it landed on the table, the sheer volume surprised me first.
Big pork bones and generous meat filled the bowl, along with plenty of rice noodles, so this one bowl alone made for a satisfying meal. The broth wasn't as heavy or thick as a typical gamjatang; instead it had the clean lightness of Thai-style rice noodle soup, making it easy to enjoy without feeling weighed down. The meat was so well cooked it fell apart with the lightest touch of my chopsticks, moist and free of any gamey smell. The noodles were springy yet soaked up the broth well, holding their texture to the last bite, and eaten together with the meat it was an unusual combination that somehow worked surprisingly well. It was my first time trying this dish, but it had an addictive quality that kept me reaching for spoonful after spoonful of broth.

Is Thanon55 okay if it's your first Thai meal?
Thanon55's pork-bone rice noodle soup doesn't go heavy on the spices, so it seemed like something even Thai food first-timers could enjoy without worry. It's balanced well for Korean palates, keeping that exotic flavor while still carrying the familiar taste of gamjatang. Adding the sauces set out on the table to taste brought out even more flavor, and dipping in and out while eating made it even better. The portion was quite generous, plenty for one adult, and it made for a filling, satisfying meal. It had a completely different charm from regular rice noodle soup, and it made me want to come back and try other Thai dishes too.

Is Thanon55 worth a solo visit in Sejong?

The charm of Thai food blended naturally with the deep flavor of gamjatang that Koreans love, giving me a different kind of meal.
