Pangyo tonkatsu after the lunch rush with a kid: Katsu Shokudo
In short
Katsu Shokudo Pangyo Main Branch is a yuzu-aged tonkatsu restaurant on basement level 1 of Alpha Dom Tower 3, connected underground to Pangyo Station on the Sinbundang Line in Seongnam, Gyeonggi. Arriving on a weekday after 1pm with a child, the writer skipped the office-worker crowd and ordered the mozzarella cheese katsu set with cold soba, the loin katsu set with udon and chicken karaage, with kids' tableware brought out right away. Twelve hours of low-temperature yuzu aging keeps even the thick loin katsu from drying out, which makes Katsu Shokudo's seven straight Blue Ribbon years easy to understand.

A few days ago, on a weekday lunch, I went out for a good meal with my kid, on the hunt for a Pangyo lunch spot. Among the countless office workers around Pangyo Station, this place has firmly established itself as a true local favorite. It's won over the picky palates of office workers and earned a Blue Ribbon award for a whopping seven years running — this is 'Katsu Shokudo Pangyo Main Branch,' located on the basement level of Alpha Dom Tower 3.

Where Katsu Shokudo Pangyo is and how to get there
Katsu Shokudo Pangyo is on the basement level of Alpha Dom Tower 3, 152 Pangyoyeok-ro, Bundang-gu, Seongnam-si, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea. It's directly connected underground to Sinbundang Line Pangyo Station, so public transit access is unbeatable. The storefront is decorated with a clean Japanese-style wood-tone lattice interior, and there are large banners outside so you can check the menu before going in.

What surprised me most was the glass at the entrance, densely covered with Blue Ribbon Survey selection stickers from 2020 through 2026 — seven years running, like a row of medals. My trust in the food shot up before I'd even walked in.

Inside Katsu Shokudo: interior and seating
Stepping inside, a wall lushly filled with plants and a pretty neon sign reading 'Yuzu-Aged Katsu Shokudo' catch your eye. In front of the kitchen, where you can catch a glimpse of the chefs cooking, there's a row of bar-style seats that are great for eating solo.
Further inside, there's plenty of table seating well suited to families or coworkers, so we could eat comfortably.
Pangyo lunch waits: what time should you arrive?
Since Katsu Shokudo Pangyo is a true Pangyo lunch spot right in the middle of Pangyo Techno Valley, waiting is basically inevitable between 11:30am and 12:30pm on weekdays because of the huge office-worker crowds. You have to register for the wait using the Catch Table kiosk at the entrance. If you're visiting with a child like me, or want a relaxed date, I strongly recommend going after 1pm on weekdays, once the office lunch rush has died down a bit.
Receipt review prize draw and tablet ordering
Near the entrance there's an old-school stationery-store-style 'nostalgic prize draw' board. Write a Naver receipt review and show it to a staff member, and they'll give you a chance at a no-losers prize draw. Prizes range from a ₩30,000 meal voucher for 1st place to an Animal Farm pen for 5th place — a fun little bonus to enjoy with my kid after the meal.

Once seated, you can order very conveniently by browsing photos on the tablet (T Order) installed at each table. The tablet screen shows not just the menu but also Katsu Shokudo's own amazing perk — 'free refills of rice, salad, and soup with one menu order per person'! A real benefit that can fill up even the hungriest guys.

What we ordered: mozzarella cheese katsu set, loin katsu set, chicken karaage
To try a variety of textures, we ordered the 'mozzarella cheese katsu set (with cold soba)' picked by my kid, the 'loin katsu set (with udon)' for a taste of the fundamentals done right, and 'chicken karaage' as a side.

Since we came with a kid, they brought out kids' tableware right away~ Super kind of them :)

Not long after ordering, the set menus arrived neatly arranged on a big wooden tray, filling the table.

Can you see how thick the tonkatsu is??? Really thick
Mozzarella cheese katsu, the dish my child picked
Cut into four generous pieces, the mozzarella cheese katsu is stunning just to look at. Inside a thin layer of meat, white savory cheese fills it up completely — lift a piece with chopsticks and the cheese stretches out like a waterfall, and my kid ate it so happily.

Comparing the cheese katsu and loin katsu~ The loin is really packed with meat so it's thick, and the cheese one is quite thick too because of all the cheese
Took a close-up of the cheese~

My kid loved how the cheese stretched out endlessly :) It was soft and delicious

Loin katsu aged 12 hours in yuzu at low temperature
The biggest weapon of Katsu Shokudo Pangyo is its 'aging method.' As written on the in-store banners, they carefully low-temperature age the meat for 12 hours using yuzu, a fruit rich in vitamin C.
Maybe that's why the cross-section of the loin katsu (pork loin) shows no dryness at all, despite the impressive thickness of the meat.
The pork, sealed inside a crispy, snowflake-like coating, was perfectly tenderized thanks to the gentle tartness of the yuzu, and with every bite soft juices filled my mouth.

The mini cold soba and udon that come with each set
The mini cold soba (buckwheat noodles) and udon included with the set had noodles so chewy and broth so deep that you'd believe they were standalone dishes, and they completely washed away the richness of the tonkatsu.

A reasonable portion, and the quality is nearly on par with any dedicated noodle restaurant!

The udon was good as a palate cleanser too!

Chicken karaage on the side: 4 pieces
The chicken karaage (4 pieces) we ordered as a side had a thin coating and tender chicken — the kind of flavor that calls for beer...^^

Maybe because it was so tender, my kid kept asking for more, saying it was too delicious, so I ended up giving away almost all of it :)

Hot stone plate and pink salt: how to eat it best
The serving detail that impressed me most was the black stone plate. Following the 'how to enjoy it best' instructions printed on the table, you place a piece of katsu on this stone plate, dip it in coarse Himalayan pink salt, and the meat's natural savory flavor explodes.
In the middle of the busy Pangyo office district, Katsu Shokudo Pangyo is a genuinely skilled tonkatsu specialist that has won over office workers' palates through the care and philosophy of 12-hour yuzu aging.
