Korean BBQ staff-grilled pork belly and cheonggukjang: Dwaeji Mansion

In short

Dwaeji Mansion Pangyo Avenue France Branch is a pork belly and pork neck Korean BBQ restaurant on the 1st floor of Avenue France in Pangyo, Seongnam. Staff grilled the pork belly and pork neck from start to finish, walking through recommended combos like salt, garlic scapes with herring roe, and a rich sauce, before finishing with the signature cheonggukjang (fermented soybean stew). With thick-cut meat, a mild cheonggukjang, and in-building parking support, it's a solid pick for Korean BBQ in Pangyo.

I went to Pangyo for the first time in a while today, and stopped by Dwaeji Mansion, a Korean BBQ place in Pangyo Avenue France. I'd wanted to go for ages but kept putting it off — finally made it happen this time! Here's my honest review.

What's the vibe inside?

The atmosphere is really cozy. Just the right vibe for eating meat, haha!

The menu basically has pork belly and pork neck, plus various types of Iberico pork! The side menu had clean options like white kimchi noodles, kimchi jjigae, cheonggukjang, and herring roe bibimbap. What did I end up eating? I'll show you below!

Basic side dish setting with pickles and white kimchi

The basic side dishes set out were pickled hot peppers, pickled wood ear mushrooms, white kimchi, wasabi, pickled young ginger, garlic scapes, sauce, salt, and herring roe. You're supposed to combine these with the meat as you eat, and the staff member grilling for us explained each combo one by one, so we could enjoy it properly.

Soju-and-beer mix on the table before the meat arrives

A soju-and-beer mix before the meat arrives — pretty much the unwritten rule, right?

A plate of lightly seasoned scallion salad

The scallion salad came out a bit later, and it was lightly seasoned and delicious.

Thick-cut raw pork belly and pork neck that were ordered

Pork belly and pork neck, fully grilled for you

Here's the pork belly and pork neck we ordered. It doesn't look it, but it was cut really thick, with a great chew.

Staff grilling pork belly and pork neck on the grill

The meat was grilled from start to finish by the staff, so we could eat really conveniently. Of course they grill it more deliciously than we would!

Thick pork belly cooking on the grill

The pork belly was really thick too. It seemed like there's a whole separate technique to grilling the meat!

Vegetables grilling alongside the meat on the grill

They grilled the vegetables carefully by hand too, which made eating so easy and pleasant.

Grilled meat about to be dipped in salt

First bite: salt

The first bite was recommended with salt, and it really was simple-is-best! Eating it with salt seemed to be the tastiest way.

Grilled pork belly being plated piece by piece

They plated the meat piece by piece for us, so we could enjoy it easily.

Meat combo with garlic scapes and herring roe

Garlic scapes + herring roe

The second combo was garlic scapes with herring roe, and I really loved this one too! It felt like it completely cut through the greasiness of the meat.

Grilled meat wrapped in white kimchi

After that I tried it with white kimchi too, and just went a bit freestyle — I got why they bother explaining the recommended combos in the first place!

Rich sauce served alongside the meat

The rich sauce is the real kicker

This was the rich, thick sauce — I forgot the name, but this sauce was really the highlight!!

A plate of meat served together with grilled vegetables

It went great with the vegetables too, and I really enjoyed it!

Finishing with the signature cheonggukjang

And finally, the moment we'd been waiting for — cheonggukjang!!! I was torn between this and kimchi jjigae, but since it's the signature dish I ordered the cheonggukjang, and it was really good. It's not seasoned too strongly, so it's fine even for beginners, and it went so well with rice that I really enjoyed it!! I'd recommend Dwaeji Mansion Pangyo whenever you need to go to Pangyo for meat!!!
