Namyangju riverside café with hand-drip coffee: Waltz and Dr. Mahn

A stately classic café by the Bukhangang River

This was somewhere I’d saved ages ago with a “must visit someday” note~ It feels completely different from the newly opened cafés popping up lately—more weighty, truly famous, and established. It’s perfect for a drive, with the triple combination of classical style, coffee, and river views all properly in place. They also operate Korea’s first coffee museum.

The atmosphere was wonderful from the outside, and the parking lot was well set up, which was convenient. Even the drive there was sooo pretty, like heading off on a trip. Mul-ui Jeongwon is nearby too, so I think it would be nice to visit both.

An interior that feels like an invitation to an upscale villa

Once inside, the atmosphere was so luxurious—it felt like being invited to an upscale American villa, maybe? There were lots of beautiful fine teacups, and the staff in black vests were wonderfully polite as they served us and explained everything~! I also totally loved the tables with tablecloths. You hardly find places like this these days, right? It was so nice for a change.

Eighteen hand-drip coffees and what we ordered

Here’s the menu~~! There are reaaally so many choices. I noticed plenty of items you wouldn’t easily find at a regular café. They’re known for hand-drip coffee and reportedly have a whopping 18 kinds~! It feels like such a professional place, haha. After thinking it over, we ordered a café latte and Ethiopian coffee, plus red velvet cheesecake because I was craving something sweet.

A lot of people were having the Chevalier? drink. It seemed to be a signature menu item, so I considered it, but I’ll order it next time haha. It had ice cream and macarons too, like a parfait, so I absolutely have to try that next time haha.

Being here reminded me so much of traveling in Europe. At some of the cafés I visited there, dignified staff would explain things professionally, and it felt so lovely to be looked after—and it was like that here too haha. The staff member who took our order and the one who brought the coffee were different people, yet each served the exact drinks and menu items we had ordered, with explanations too. It made me realize how much those details matter.

Ethiopian hand-drip coffee

Our order arrived~! This is the Ethiopian hand-drip coffee. They served it with a little pamphlet explaining the coffee, and aren’t the coffee cups sooo pretty?!! I seriously felt like a princess in Bridgerton!!!

The café latte that exceeded expectations

I ordered the café latte without expecting much, but the coffee really tasted different. It had a distinct, nutty coffee flavor—truly different. I think I’ll order the café latte again next time. The coffee cup was totally my taste, seriously.. They also brought syrup in case we needed it, and the care and explanations? No words needed..

Red velvet cheesecake in a shape I’d never seen

And the red velvet cheesecake.. I’ve had red velvet cheesecake at lots of cafés, but I’d never seen it in this shape, so I was curious about the taste. It was delicious, with a cheesy aroma and a soft egg-like fragrance, and the ice cream served alongside it was so sweet and pretty to look at too. !!

Why it made me think of anniversaries and outings with parents

I think I’d be so happy to be proposed to somewhere like this, and you’d probably get compliments for bringing your parents here too! There seemed to be plenty of older guests, and everyone either looked peaceful or was smiling. It made me think, this café really is a wonderful place. I want to express it better, but sorry, my vocabulary falls short hahaha. It’s just the kind of place that makes you smile..

It’s apparently a Baeknyeon Gage (Hundred-Year Store), and I can understand why. Oh, and Baeknyeon Gage doesn’t mean the place is actually 100 years old; it refers to businesses that have maintained their legacy for more than 30 years, remained loved, and been recognized by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups.

A lovely walking trail around the café after coffee

The walking trail around the café was so pretty too. Even the path itself had an upscale feel, making it great for a stroll after coffee. There must be a reason this place always comes up as a top choice when planning a Namyangju date course.

With river views, a classic atmosphere, delicious coffee, and even course meals, Waltz and Dr. Mahn is a large Namyangju café that seems perfect for anniversaries, proposals, or an outing with your parents! Being open year-round is such a plus from a guest’s point of view too :)
