In short
Byway Bakers Byeollae Branch is a bakery by Byeollae Byeolgaram Station in Namyangju, Gyeonggi. I took home a fresh peach yogurt Wappu salt bread, a Hong Kong pineapple bun, and a double chocolate baguette for three very different flavor profiles. It had been a while, so I stopped by Byway Bakers Byeollae Branch, famous around Byeollae for its financiers. This time I went for one thing only—the much-hyped Wappu salt bread—but the other little temptations were powerful. Me, a guy hopelessly weak against temptation... Here comes my honest bread-shopping review!
Byway Bakers Byeollae Branch: location and parking
It is at 104, 1F, 27-10 Deoksong 2-ro 10beon-gil, Namyangju-si, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea, right in front of Exit 4 of Byeollae Byeolgaram Station!!! Hours are 09:00–20:00, and parking is available behind the building.
When you arrive, the compact, tidy exterior makes it feel like an easy place to pop into and take something away. Inside, there was a wide range, from salt bread and financiers to egg tarts and baguettes.

Byeollae salt bread: the Wappu salt bread stands out

The Wappu salt bread especially caught my eye with packaging that looks like the netting used for fruit. Unlike regular salt bread, it combines a crisp coating with cream and fruit, so it definitely looks more like a dessert from the start. Of the different varieties, I chose fresh peach yogurt.

As befits a place known for salt bread and financiers, there were many varieties of both. Egg tarts, chewy cookie bites, butter rice cakes, and buns were also reaching their claws toward me...

The coffee is really inexpensive too 👍

Fresh Peach Yogurt Wappu Salt Bread (₩7,500), Hong Kong Pineapple Bun (₩4,500), and Double Chocolate Baguette (₩6,500). Triple signing of an elite squad, complete!
Fresh peach yogurt Wappu salt bread: the taste

The one I was looking forward to most!!! That famous Wappu salt bread!!! First, the anticipation from that hefty weight—heart thump thump. Let’s crack it apart.
Hmm, but apparently this is not how you break it open... haha;;

Anyway, it had far more peach than I expected, so it was not just a peach-in-name-only menu item. The bread starts with the chewy texture and salty taste characteristic of salt bread, followed by the sweet, tangy flavor of peach. Then there is Wappu’s signature sweet, crisp coating and soft cream, giving each bite quite a variety of textures. Crisp → chewy → soft → refreshing peach. It is on another level from ordinary salt bread, so anyone looking for a distinctive Byeollae salt bread should absolutely try it at least once!
Hong Kong pineapple bun with pineapple jam
Second was the Hong Kong pineapple bun, whose name alone made me curious. For reference, the Hong Kong-style pineapple bun is known to be named not because it contains real pineapple, but because its crisp, bumpy top resembles pineapple skin. It has a feel similar to Korea’s soboro bread.
The outer crust was lightly sweet, while the inside was fluffy and soft like soboro. Butter inside adds a nutty richness, and dipping it in the fruit-filled pineapple jam I had alongside it made it feel completely different with a bright tang. The buttery richness and the pineapple jam’s freshness work better together than expected.
Rich chocolate cream in the double chocolate baguette
Last was the double chocolate baguette, which chocolate lovers would find hard to pass by. Since it was called a baguette, I expected a simple chocolate bread, but the chocolate cream inside has quite a presence. It is extremely rich and dense, so one bite fills your mouth with sweet chocolate flavor. While the peach Wappu salt bread before it leaned refreshing and sweet, the double chocolate baguette goes straight for chocolate, exactly as its name suggests.
Which menu should you choose?

If you like sweet salt bread filled with fruit and cream, the fresh peach yogurt Wappu salt bread will suit you well. If you prefer buttery flavor and fluffy bread, I would recommend the Hong Kong pineapple bun. Add pineapple jam and its tang makes the flavor a little lighter. If you love chocolate, the choice is simple: definitely go for the double chocolate baguette. Having taken home all three, I found each one headed in a different flavor direction, which made choosing what to eat fun too.
My wrap-up after trying all three

Byway Bakers’ Byeollae salt bread really was in a class of its own. The Wappu salt bread felt downright overwhelming. The Hong Kong pineapple bun and double chocolate baguette each had their own charm and character too—another satisfying day of bread shopping!
- Fresh Peach Yogurt Wappu Salt Bread — chewy, salty bread packed with peach and finished with sweet, crisp Wappu
- Hong Kong Pineapple Bun — nutty butter and fluffy bread; add pineapple jam for a refreshing note
- Double Chocolate Baguette — intensely rich, dense chocolate cream delivers unmistakable sweetness
- All three head in different flavor directions, making them easy to choose by preference
- A convenient Byeollae bakery for takeaway near Byeollae Byeolgaram Station
